EMIL F. GERAK

Served in U.S. Air Force

Emil F. Gerak, 84, died surrounded by family Feb. 4, 2010. He was born in Detroit, and honorably served in the U.S. Air Force before moving to the Akron area in 1962. Mr. Gerak retired from National City Bank after 21 years of service. He was a member of the Polish-American Legion and Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Mr. Gerak was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Gladys (Szymanski) Gerak, his sisters Josephine, Jane and Elsie Gerak and brother-in-law, Vincent Blanco. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Nancy (nee Donzelli); son, Tony (Tricia); daughters, Laura (Christopher) Gibbs, Amy (Andy) Mangione, Michele (Dan) Clayton, and Mary (Ryan) Brehm. He was also a loving "Dzia Dzia" to grandsons: Alex and Justin Gerak, AJ and Daniel Mangione, Dylan and Evan Brehm, and Gavin Clayton. Mr. Gerak is also survived by his brother, Joseph (Sally) Gerak of Michigan, sister-in-law Josephine Blanco, and brother-in-law, Sam (Bonnie) Donzelli and devoted nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday took place at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Interment was at Holy Cross Cemetery, where American Legion Post # 281 conducted military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church or Akron Children's Hospital Foundation for the palliative care unit.

Ciriello and Carr Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
