The Woodridge girls basketball team saw what happens when one of its best players was not available when it faced Orrville Feb. 20.

With Devan Ferrante out with an ankle injury, the Lady Bulldogs fell to Orrville 50-29 to finish the regular season at 7-13 overall.

"Devan is our second leading scorer and we really missed her. Her shooting helps She'kiera Brooks becomes certainly more effective," said Woodridge coach Chris Esterak. "Devan has been really improving this season. The last six or seven games, she has averaged about 14 points a game."

Esterak said Woodridge hung in with Orrville until near the end of the third quarter.

"We really were in the game in the first half and through most of the third quarter. But we had a two-minute stretch that cost us the game," Esterak said.

The coach explained that the Lady Bulldogs simply failed to rebound in that portion of the game.

One of Woodridge's real strengths is its size and rebounding ability, so when the girls don't do well on the glass they put themselves in deep trouble.

Brooks played her usual play-making role and led the Lady Bulldogs with 11 points.

Also having good games were Alix Beane and Brooke Bryan. Beane had nine points and nine rebounds and Bryan grabbed 12 rebounds and had six points.

On Feb 27, Woodridge was scheduled to open postseason play. The Lady Bulldogs face Norton for the Division II sectional championship at Massillon Washington High School after Woodridge took a bye in the first round. Results of the Norton game were not available press time.
