MARY ROSSI Involved with parks systems Mary Rossi died Feb. 9, 2010 in Avila Beach, Ca. In large part, Mrs. Rossi's life was family and community involvement. When a candidate for mayor of Cuyahoga Falls suddenly died, she became a write-in candidate. She sat on the Parks and Recreation Board and was one of the founding Board members of the Cuyahoga Valley National Recreation Area. She also served as the first woman foreman of the Ohio Grand Jury and later, along with husband Roger, moved to Avila Beach in 1983, where she took up equally ambitious community involvement. Mrs. Rossi coordinated The Great Race, which came through San Luis Obispo in 1988, served on the Railroad Centennial in 1994, and took an active role in the community in many other ways. Avila Beach and San Luis Obispo truly became the family's second home, after Cuyahoga Falls. She is survived by her son, Rob Rossi (Laurie) of San Luis Obispo; daughter, Gayle Matjunas (Perry) of Lewisville, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Jacquie Paulsen (John) of Atascadero; sister-in-law, Marion Morris of Cuyahoga Falls; brother-in-law, Gary Rossi of Cuyahoga Falls; grandchildren Steve Rossi (Shelly) of San Luis Obispo, Melissa Matjunas of Lewisville and Luke Rossi of San Luis Obispo; great-grandchildren Devin, Caroline, Cole and Jack Rossi of San Luis Obispo; along with many, many special friends. Mary is preceded in death by her beloved mother, Halana Morris; husband, Roger Rossi (1987); brothers Bud and Dick Morris; and niece, Susan Morris. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to Hospice Partners of San Luis Obispo, French Hospital Foundation or The Rossi Foundation, a family endeavor that is involved in many aspects of the community. Arrangements are under the direction of Reis Family Mortuary, San Luis Obispo, Ca. Comments
