The Russians are coming -- to the Stow Presbyterian Church, 4150 Fishcreek Road (just north of Graham Road) in Stow. The Stow Symphony Orchestra will perform March 6 at 7:30 p.m. Music Director Darrell Lee Music will lead a concert featuring major works by Igor Stravinsky and Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Stravinsky's Symphony No. 1 in E flat Major is one of his liveliest, flat-out most fun works. Written between 1905 and 1907, it is fully representative of the Russian classical tradition. Reminiscent of Tchaikovsky or Glazunov, the Symphony's orchestration also shows the influence of Stravinsky's teacher, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings in C Major, Op. 48 is notable for its many familiar melodies. Intended as an homage to Mozart's serenades, it resonated strongly with the composer -- as he wrote to his patroness "This is a piece from the heart." Tickets for the concert, available at the door, are priced at $10 for adults, and $7 for seniors and students. Children under 12 are admitted free. Ticket packages are now available. A value package of five tickets is priced at $45 for adults and $30 for seniors and students. Group rates are available; call 330-678-0229. For more information visit www.stoworchestra.org online.
