Akron Civic hosts a 'Festival of Nations'

The Akron Civic Theatre, in partnership with Akron International Friendship, will present Festival of Nations 2010 on March 6.

Interactive programming and an international food and art festival begin at 6:30 p.m., with performances beginning on stage at 7:30 p.m.

The stage will play host to eight cultural groups which will share their dances and music from all over the world. Scheduled to perform are:

* Csardas Dance Company, Hungarian Folk Dancers;

* Cleveland Chinese Music Ensemble;

* Dance Israeli, Jewish Folk Dancers;

* El Corazon de Mexico, Ballet Folklorico Dancers;

* Michael Searching Bear, the 2009 Nammy Award winner for the Best World Recording of Native American Fusion Music;

* The O'Hare Irish Dancers;

* Serpente Negra Capoeira, Brazillian Martial Artists and Dancers; and

* Shri Kajaa Mandhir -- classical Indian Dancers.

The Master of Ceremonies for the evening will be Allan Fee from Q104's Wilde and Fee Morning Show.

The Grand Lobby and Upper Salon will feature a variety of nationality groups selling art and food along with demonstrations from their culture.

Festival of Nations 2010 is sponsored in part by the Laurel Lakes Foundation.

"The Civic is thrilled to host this event," said Val Renner, project coordinator at the Akron Civic Theatre. "It's an affordable family-friendly event that showcases performances, food and visual art representing the diversity of our community."
