Village of Silver Lake

Feb. 9 -- Driver runs after stop: A 42-year-old Silver Lake woman was cited for failure to control, reckless operation, willfully fleeing, a stop sign violation and a safety belt violation after being involved in a vehicle and foot pursuit shortly after midnight.

A village police officer reported he was on Lakeland Parkway at Silver Lake Boulevard when he saw a car driving northbound on Overlook without its headlights on. The officer reported seeing the car go through a stop sign at an intersection. The officer reported he caught up to the driver as she passed Athens Road and then activated his overhead lights and audible sirens. According to the report, the driver continued on Silver Lake Boulevard without slowing down and turned left onto Kingston Circle.

The driver tried to turn into a driveway but crashed into a retaining wall in front of the house, police said. The driver exited the vehicle and started running up the driveway.

In the report, the officer said he caught the driver "at the top of the driveway, put her on the ground and placed handcuffs on her." The officer said the driver "refused to stand up and cooperate with me, so she was half carried and half [dragged] to the street where my cruiser was parked."

According to the report, the owner of the house came out and told police the woman was his ex-wife. In the report, the officer wrote the woman was "not making any sense as she was talking so I called for a squad." She was taken to St. Thomas Hospital.

The report said the driver was not injured and the car had "non-functional damage."
