First United Methodist Church in Cuyahoga Falls

Boy Scout Troop 152 at First Church is sponsoring their annual Pancake Breakfast at the church in Wesley Hall from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 7. They will be serving sausage, all the pancakes they can eat, OJ and beverages for $5 for adults and $3 for ages 5-12. Kids 4 and under eat free. This troop of scouts have been chartered at First Church for 95 years.

Movie Night at First Church is Feb. 12 beginning at 7 p.m. All are invited to come to watch "Amazing Grace," a powerful presentation of British reformer William Wilberforce's fight to end the British slave trade. There will also be the movie, "Mulan," for children ages 4 through those in the sixth grade plus snacks for everyone and games for the kids. Child care for those younger than 4 is also available. This evening is free.

Going Strong at First Church will be having a program on Feb. 16 at 1 p.m. The speaker is Betsy Kling, Channel 3 Meterologist. Kling is a Copley native. Going Strong is an active group of retirees that meet once a month for programs in or out of the church and invites everyone to enjoy their programs. "Outflow" is the name of the study for Lent at First Church. The Rev. Brown will be preaching on the theme of the study which is outward focused living for an inward focused world. Services are at 5 p.m. on Saturday and 8:30 and 11 on Sundays. He will also be leading a study between services starting Feb. 14. The Rev. Susan Lausch will be leading a small group study on Wednesdays from 6 to 7 p.m. starting Feb. 17. Director of Education, Karol Lewis, will be leading a small group on Mondays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. starting Feb. 15. The Rev. Katie Osier will also be using that theme as a study for the youth. Northminster Presbyterian Church

The Northminster Presbyterian Church, 104 W. Portage Trail Extension, invites community members to join the congregation for its Sunday morning worship service at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Stephanie Crossland.

The youth of the church will be collecting money in soup pots after the morning worship service on "Souper Bowl" Sunday, Feb. 7. The "Souper Bowl" collection began in 1990 to help the congregation be mindful "of those who are without a bowl of soup to eat." All money collected will be donated to the Feed My Sheep program in Akron.

The next meeting of the Men's Fellowship will be Feb. 8, at 6 p.m. This will be their Annual Men's Fellowship Sweetheart Dinner. Call the church for details.

The next spaghetti dinner will be Feb. 12, from 5 to 7 p.m. The cost is $7 for adults, $3.50 for children 6-12, and free for children 5 and under.

The Northminster Book Club continues to meet on the third Monday of each month at 1:15 p.m. in the church lounge. Anyone who is interested is encouraged to come to the next meeting Feb. 15.

United Presbyterian Church

The theme for the worship services for 2010 is: "Experiencing the Living God: Knowing His Will - Living Your Purpose." The message this week: "Shaped by the Living God," drawing from Jeremiah 18 and his insight into how a potter works with clay.

U.P.C. is participating in an inter-church bowling league at Tallmadge Lanes, Monday evenings, beginning at 6:45 p.m.

PrayerLab will meet Feb. 9, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. PrayerLab is a ministry that focuses in on participants' prayer needs and helps participants grow in effective prayer. No agenda or liturgy so as to be Spirit-led.

Wednesday Night ALIVE!, Feb. 10, from 5:15 to 7:30 p.m., is a family-oriented program that offers spiritual growth opportunities for all ages. A dinner is included.

On Feb. 13, the U.P.C. Free Soup Lunch will take place in the Fellowship Hall from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

U.P.C. is also organizing "God Sightings" Bible discussion groups based on the "God Sightings" yearlong program through the scriptures. The program will begin on Feb. 17, Ash Wednesday, the first day of the Lenten season.

Bethany United Church of Christ

Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and ends with the celebration of Easter (April 4 this year). Bethany will again offer a variety of worship opportunities during this holy season beginning with: Ash Wednesday worship service, Feb. 17 at 7:30 p.m. All are invited to attend. St. John's Episcopal Church

A special offering for Haiti will be taken up on all four Sundays in February after the usual Sunday offering. The Outreach Committee will match dollar for dollar whatever the church collects, and the combined offering will be sent to Episcopal Relief and Development.

Shrove Tuesday is Feb. 16 and the annual pancake dinner will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. that evening. Come celebrate before Lent begins. Tickets are $5 for adults and children under 12 are free.

It is time for Operation Keep In Touch (K.I.T.) The purpose of K.I.T. is to remember, encourage and pray for the young adults of the church's parish family. Care packages are sent to the young adults for four years after they graduate from high school. Donations to help with postage or to purchase small items for the packages would be appreciated. Packages will be sent the third week of February.

The Friendship Club will meet Feb. 10 at 11:30 a.m. for an "Old Movie and Popcorn Afternoon." This club is open to all persons ages 55 and older.

The Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper will be Feb. 16 from 5 to 7 p.m. The men of the church put this event on every year and the tickets are priced so that the whole family can attend for a nominal fee. Tickets are $5 for adults and children are free.

On Feb. 14, there will be an intergenerational program taking place after the 10 a.m. service.

Pilgrim United Church of Christ

Everyone is welcome to Pilgrim on Feb. 14 for worship and then for the "Last Alleluia Sunday" program and pancake and sausage lunch sponsored by the Christian Education Board. Plans are to decorate a Mardi Gras mask, burn last year's Palm Sunday palms for Ash Wednesday ashes, celebrate the "alleluias" in your life and enjoy a lunch together. A pancake flipping race is also planned.

Members are reminded to save their Acme tapes to raise funds to support the Christian Education 2010 Mission Trip. Tapes must be dated between Sept. 27, 2009, and Feb. 21, 2010.

Attendees are invited to stay following worship Feb. 7 as the church celebrates the Boy Scouts' 100th anniversary with Cub Scout Pack #3186. The Cub Scouts meet in the Social Hall every Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The next date to enjoy a complimentary hot meal with the community is Feb. 13 at noon.

Pilgrim's youth invite all sixth through 12th graders to the Youth Fellowship Skating Party Feb. 7. The fun begins following worship (around 11:45 a.m.) with a pizza lunch before walking across the street to the Cuyahoga Falls Ice Skating Rink. Permission slips and current medical forms required. St. Anthony of Padua Church in Akron

St. Anthony Parent Teacher Union presents their 55th Annual Spaghetti Dinner Feb. 14 in the Church Hall, 83 Mosser Place, Akron. They will be serving dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Carry-out dinners are available. Cost is $7 for adults and $5 for children. St. Anthony of Padua Church, an Italian parish, was established in 1933. St. Anthony School was established in September 1955. The proceeds from the dinner help fund the school to keep tuition costs down.

Family Fun Night will take place Feb. 10. A meal will happen at 5:30 p.m. and worship will take place at 6:30. Family Fun & games happens from 7 to 8 p.m.

A Marriage Retreat will take place Feb. 13 at 9 a.m. Register by Feb. 8. It is the second annual Southern Baptist Associations' Marriage Workshop -- Building a Better Marriage. The topic is the five languages of love.
