RICHARD F. CRISS

Was a retired officer in Army National Guard

Richard F. "Dick" Criss, 74, died Jan. 19, 2010.

Born in Oakland, Md., he lived in the Cuyahoga Falls area for the last 53 years. Dick retired as a first lieutenant in the Army National Guard after 30 years and from Ferry Industries in 2000. He was the Corps Sgt. Major and an advisory board member of the Wadsworth Salvation Army Corps, a longtime member of the Republican Party, had recently joined the NRA, and played cornet in the New Horizons Band.

Mr. Criss is survived by wife of 53 years, Betty; daughter, Kathy Chapman of Dallas, Texas; son, Richard A. (Dawn) Criss of Cuyahoga Falls; grandchildren, Michele and Richard Criss; brothers, John of Oakland, Md., Philip (Betty) of Cuyahoga Falls and Gary (Diane) of Winder, Ga.; best friends, Rita and Harold Thomas; and beloved pets, Willie and Sylvester.

Services took place Jan. 22 at The Salvation Army Akron Citadel Corps, 190 S. Maple St., with Captains Thomas and Debbra Grace officiating. Interment at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Greater Akron, 4904 Quick Rd., Peninsula, Ohio 44264 or the Wadsworth Salvation Army.

Billow's Funeral Home Falls Chapel handled arrangements.
