First United Methodist Church

Men's Time Out is a group of men who meet on the first Saturday of each month at First United Methodist Church, 245 Portage Trail, for breakfast and fellowship. All are welcome to come and see what this group is all about. They meet at 8:30 a.m. (the next meeting is Feb. 6) until 9:30 a.m. for a breakfast and discussion on different topics. The topic for Feb. 6 is "Being A Winner Even If You Lose." For more info, call the church office at 330-923-5241, ext. 210.

Boy Scout Troop 152 at First Church is sponsoring their annual Pancake Breakfast at the church in Wesley Hall from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 7. They will be serving sausage, all the pancakes they can eat, OJ and beverages for $5 for adults and $3 for ages 5-12. Kids 4 and under eat free.

Northminster Presbyterian Church

The Northminster Presbyterian Church, located at 104 W. Portage Trail Extension, invites community members to join the congregation for its Sunday morning worship service at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Stephanie Crossland.

The Children's Sunday School classes continue to meet each Sunday morning, following the Pastor's "Moment With the Children." Children in grades 1 through 5 (The Shining Stars Class) meet in the church lounge, while the students in grades 6 through 8 (The New Beginnings Class) meet in the Youth Room.

The Pioneer Club, a non-denominational youth club for ages 4 through seventh grade, have resumed meeting on Thursday evenings at 6 p.m. for fun, learning, crafts, music, snacks and an opportunity to earn badges.

The youth of the church will be collecting money in soup pots after the morning worship service on "Souper Bowl" Sunday, Feb. 7. The "Souper Bowl" collection began in 1990 to help the congregation be mindful "of those who are without a bowl of soup to eat." All money collected will be donated to the Feed My Sheep program in Akron.

The next meeting of the Men's Fellowship will be Feb. 8, at 6 p.m. This will be their Annual Men's Fellowship Sweetheart Dinner.

Community of Christ Church in Akron

Several pastors and churches in the greater Akron area would like to cordially invite community members and their friends to a citywide worship service on Jan. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Community of Christ Church, 834 Grant St., Akron. The pastors involved with the event are Pastors Richard & Theresa Skoff of David's House, Pastor Jim Shuman of Suffield Fellowship Church, Pastor David Fisher of Sanctuary of Praise, Pastor Joe Schoblocher of Emmanuel Christian Assembly, Pastor Tom Bloom of Community of Believers, Pastor Patrick Barrett of Community of Christ Church, and the Rev. Mark Ford.

Redeemer Lutheran Church

Redeemer Lutheran Church, located at 2141 Fifth St., invites community members to join them this weekend at its services. On Jan. 31 at 8:45 a.m. is the traditional service and at 11:15 a.m. is another contemporary service. Community members are also invited to join the congregation at 10 a.m. on Sundays for its 'Kids of the Kingdom' and adult Bible studies. The principal of the school is leading one of the Bible studies focusing on a book by George Barna titled Revolutionary Parenting.

On the first Saturday of each month, the church hosts a Soup Kitchen from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is sponsored by the church's Board of Human Care.

The church also presents a murder mystery dinner theater comedy. The cast consists of youth and adult members of the church.

"Murder, Mayhem and Marshmallow Salad" by Shelly Sellepack will be performed at Redeemer's new Family Life Center on Feb. 20 at 6:45 p.m. and Feb. 21 at 12:45 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the senior youth trip to the National Youth Gathering in New Orleans this summer. The trip will also include a service day to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina as they continue to rebuild their city.

Tickets are $18 each. The ticket includes the attendee's choice of main entree, plus appetizer, salad, beverage and dessert. United Presbyterian Church

The theme for the worship services for 2010 is: "Experiencing the Living God: Knowing His Will -- Living Your Purpose." The message this week: "Jesus' Ministry from the Inside Out," drawing from John 5.16-20: Jesus saw the Father at work and joined with Him in His work.

The traditional service starts at 8:30 a.m. and the New Creation contemporary service starts at 11 a.m. The Educational Hour, including "Amazement Park" for elementary school- age children, is from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Child care for babies and toddlers is available throughout the Sunday morning activities.

On Jan. 31, from 7 to 8 p.m., the U. P. C. Youth Groups will meet at the church for both Middle School and High School groups.

PrayerLab will meet Feb. 2, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Wednesday Night ALIVE!, Feb. 3, from 5:15 to 7:30 p.m. is a family-oriented program that offers spiritual growth opportunities for all ages. A family-style dinner is included. This is a 10-week program and is open to all.

The Men's Breakfast will meet Feb. 6, beginning at 7:30 a.m. at the Silver Swan on Front Street in Cuyahoga Falls. The resource the men are using this year is: "Man Does Not Live By Sports Alone" by Dennis Swanberg.

Throughout the Sundays in January, U.P.C. is collecting non-perishable food items for "Souper Bowl for Hunger," a national grass-roots church movement to help with hunger in America. This is a part of the church's "Help the Hungry -- Get Your Can to Church" campaign, which will conclude on Feb. 7.

Bethany United Church of Christ

Sunday worship times at Bethany UCC are 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. with Church School for all ages at 9:15 a.m. Bethany's youth fellowship will be taking orders for sub sandwiches for Super Bowl Sunday. Place the order after worship with YF or call the church office. The first Sunday of each month, Bethany's volunteer nurses offer blood pressure tests during social hour. The Bethany Buckeyes is an informal group of men and women who are at least 50 years old. They meet the first Friday of every month and celebrate with food, games and laughter. The next meeting will be Feb. 5 at 6 p.m. Call in reservations to the church office. The building is wheelchair accessible with handicapped parking. St. John's Episcopal Church

A special offering for Haiti will be taken up on all four Sundays in February after the usual Sunday offering. The Outreach Committee will match dollar for dollar whatever the church collects, and the combined offering will be sent to Episcopal Relief and Development.

The Central-East Deanery meeting will be Feb. 1 at St. Paul's Church in Canton. Those St. John's members wishing to attend should meet in the parking lot at 8:45 a.m.

The Episcopal Church Women's board meeting resumes Feb. 4 at 10:30. In the absence of the church's president, Ginger Sirola, the vice president -- Gail Clarke -- will preside.

St. Theresa's Guild is hosting a Mexican dinner on Feb. 15 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are limited to 50 and can be obtained from Heidi Myers (330-928-1817).

St. Anthony of Padua Church in Akron

St. Anthony Parent Teacher Union presents their 55th Annual Spaghetti Dinner Feb. 14 in the Church Hall, 83 Mosser Place, Akron. They will be serving dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Carry-out dinners are available. Cost is $7 for adults and $5 for children. The proceeds from the dinner help fund the school to keep tuition costs down.
