MATTHEW B. POELKING

World War II veteran

Matthew B. Poelking, 85, died at his residence Jan. 10, 2010. Mr. Poelking was born in Lakewood, had resided in Cuyahoga Falls since Oct. 1 and previously lived in California for 25 years and Ohio prior to that. He had worked in residential construction as a carpenter, built his own home in N. Royalton and loved flying as an aerobatic and crop duster. He was a veteran of World War II having served with the U. S. Navy, and enjoyed windsurfing, sailing, model airplane flying, antique car restoration and motorcycles, his Harley in particular.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty Lee; daughters, Mary Y. Gutin and Connie Marie Brakeman (Dan); sons, Thomas M. (Tammy), John, Don J. (Kim) and David Lee Poelking; grandchildren, Joe and James Gutin, Karen Watson (Dan), Rachael Chelsea (Dan) and Tyler Poelking, Nicholas Poelking (Adriane), Jason and Travis Poelking and David and Christina Poelking; great-granddaughters, Sarah and Eden; great-grandsons, Luke and Benjamin and sister, Mary Ann Ellis.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service was conducted in the Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, Chaplain Rob Grow officiating. In lieu of other remembrances, memorials may be made to Harbor Light Hospice, 25 S. Main St., Suite 7, Munroe Falls 44262.

Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
