First United Methodist Church A pasta dinner will take place at First United Methodist Church, 245 Portage Trail, on Jan. 29 from 5 to 7 p.m. in Wesley Hall. All are invited to a dinner of pasta, salad, bread, beverages and dessert. Presale tickets $6 for adults or at the door $7. Tickets for children ages 4-10 are $3 and children 3 and under eat free. For pre-sale tickets, call 330-923-5241, ext. 218. Dean and Friends, an annual concert by organist H. Dean Wagner will take place Jan. 29, at 7:30 p.m. at First Church. This year's concert features an all-out brass and organ spectacular, with three trumpets, three trombones, percussion and organ. Dean and the brass will perform mostly music composed by the great French composers for the big cathedrals there. Music includes Marcel Dupre's "Poeme Heroique," written for the rededication of the cathedral of Verdun, Widor's "Lord, Save Thy People," Vierne's "Marche Triomphale" written for the centenary of Napoleon. This concert is open to all. There is child care provided. A free will offering will be taken to benefit the First Church Arts Series. If you are having a Super Bowl party and would like to buy some Super Bowl Subs to feed hungry partygoers, the youth at First Church are having a sub sale. The 6-inch Italian subs are stuffed with ham, salami, pepperoni and cheese and are only $5 each. Order them before Feb. 3 by calling 330-923-5241 x218. They will be freshly made on Feb. 7, and may be picked up between 3:30 and 4:30 that day. Or there is free delivery during that time to those living in Cuyahoga Falls, Stow, Munroe Falls and Hudson. The proceeds from the sale will benefit the activities of the Epworth youth ministry. Men's Time Out is a group of men who meet on the first Saturday of each month at First Church for breakfast and fellowship. All are welcome to come and see what this group is all about. They meet from 8:30 until 9:30 a.m. for a breakfast and discussion on different topics. The topic for the next meeting on Feb. 6 is "Being A Winner Even If You Lose." It meets each Wednesday after school and they do all sorts of things. Northminster Presbyterian Church The Northminster Presbyterian Church, located at 104 W. Portage Trail Extension, invites community members to join them for Sunday morning worship service at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Stephanie Crossland. Rev. Crossland will speak on Jan. 24 on "Stranger Things Have Happened," with scripture from Nehemiah and Luke. On Jan. 31, she will focus on "Be On Your Way," with readings from Jeremiah and Luke. The Pioneer Club, the church's non-denominational youth club for ages 4 through seventh grade, will resume meeting on Jan. 28, at 6 p.m., for fun, learning, crafts, music, snacks and an opportunity to earn badges. Journey Covenant Church Journey Covenant Church serves a free, hot dinner to local residents on the last Tuesday of every month from 6 to 7 p.m. The next dinner will take place Jan. 26. United Presbyterian Church The theme for the worship services for 2010 is: "Experiencing the Living God: Knowing His Will -- Living Your Purpose. The message this week: "True Fellowship: Jesus Is The Way." On Jan. 24, U.P.C. will have only one worship service that morning from 11 a.m. to noon, followed by the annual congregational meeting. The Educational Hour, including "Amazement Park" for elementary school-age children, is from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Child care for babies and toddlers is available throughout the Sunday morning activities. Parking is available on church property. All are welcome. On Jan. 24, from 7 to 8 p.m., the U. P. C. Youth Groups will meet at the church for both Middle School and High School groups. On Jan. 25, the Ruth Circle will meet in the church parlor at 1 p.m. U.P.C. is participating in an inter-church bowling league at Tallmadge Lanes, Monday evenings, beginning at 6:45 p.m. PrayerLab will meet Jan. 26, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. PrayerLab is a ministry that focuses in on participants' prayer needs and helps participants grow in effective prayer. No agenda or liturgy so as to be Spirit-led. Wednesday Night ALIVE! is Jan. 27 from 5:15 to 7:30 p.m. is a family-oriented program that offers spiritual growth opportunities for all ages. Throughout the Sundays in January, U.P.C. is collecting non-perishable food items for "Souper Bowl for Hunger," a national grassroots church movement to help with hunger in America. This is a part of the church's "Help the Hungry -- Get Your Can to Church" campaign, which will conclude on Feb. 7. The church is also advocating helping earthquake disaster relief in Haiti by giving through the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (P.D.A.) agency of the Presbyterian Church (USA) as a safe, reliable and practical way of getting needed help to the people of this devastated nation. Bethany United Church of Christ Sunday worship times at Bethany UCC are 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. with church school for all ages at 9:15 a.m. Bethany's IHN Guest Week begins Jan. 24. Place the order after worship with YF or call the church office. The first Sunday of each month, Bethany's volunteer nurses offer blood pressure tests during social hour. Bethany United Church of Christ is located at 1235 Broad Blvd. St. John's Episcopal Church The annual book sale in St. John's undercroft will be March 20. Anyone wishing to donate books can leave them inside the back door -- handicapped entrance -- before March 19. If anyone needs to have them picked up at their home, they should call the office for instructions. The monthly Soup's On program will be Jan. 30 starting at 11:30 a.m. The church served 1,230 meals in 2009. Church officials said the majority of the people served were in obvious need, while some attendees just wanted someone to talk to. St. John's Worship Committee provided a prayer and hymn service prior to each Soup's On program. An average of 30 people attended. The next session of the Wednesday morning Bible study will begin Feb. 3 and extend through April 28. The topic for study will be 1st and 2nd Corinthians. Study books will be available for $6 each. The church is located at 2220 Second St. in Cuyahoga Falls. A handicapped entrance and elevator is available. Pilgrim United Church of Christ On Jan. 27 is Pilgrim's Pizza Night at Donato's. Place an order for dine-in or carry-out from 5 to 8 p.m. at Donato's on State Road and mention that you're a member of Pilgrim church, and Donato's will donate a portion of the purchase to Pilgrim. This is not applicable to delivery orders. Tuesday Morning Bible Study continues to meet each Tuesday at 10 a.m. The church invites community members to join the congregation for stimulating conversation about how to apply the timeless word of God to one's lives today. Girl Scout Troop #520 meets every week on Mondays starting at 6 p.m. Cub Scout Pack #3186 meets weekly on Tuesdays starting at 7 p.m. On Feb. 7, Boy Scouts of America celebrates their 100th anniversary.
