RICHARD E. STRECKER SR.

World War II veteran

Richard E. Strecker Sr., was born on Feb. 20, 1926, and died on Dec. 30, 2009 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn, after 55 years of marriage, parents Frank and Clara, sister Maryann, and brother Frank. He is survived by brother Robert Strecker Sr. He is survived by his children Mary Ann Walsh of Akron, Kathleen (Thomas Hemperly) of Jackson Township, Carol and Richard Strecker of Cuyahoga Falls, James (Tanya) Strecker of Colorado, grandchildren Steven (Joy) Vale of Jackson Township, Susan (Chris) Stryker and Tylyn Strecker of Colorado, and great-grandchildren Ashleigh and Sam Vale of Jackson Township.

Mr. Strecker served in the U.S. Army and Air Force during World War II. He was a 1944 graduate of Cuyahoga Falls High School, Kent State University and the University of Akron School of Law. He was admitted to the Ohio Bar in 1952 and was a member of the Ohio Bar for more than 50 years. He was past member and president of the Cuyahoga Falls Jaycees, Summit County and Ohio Land Title Association and chairman of the Ohio Title Insurance Underwriters Association and the City of Cuyahoga Falls Planning Commission. Mr. Strecker was a past member of the Akron and Cuyahoga Falls Kiwanis Clubs, Akron City Club and University Club and a current member of Silver Lake Country Club. He was a founding member of both Immaculate Heart of Mary and St. Eugene's Church, where he served on the building and fundraising committees, and was an usher at St. Eugene's Church.

Mass of the Resurrection took place at St. Eugene's Church and burial was in Oakwood Cemetery. Services were conducted by Father Neil Crosby. Memorials may be made to St. Eugene's Building Fund, 1821 Munroe Falls Ave., Cuyahoga Falls 44221.
