Akron -- When medical bills mount, the complexity of forms and paperwork can be confusing and frustrating. That's where Executive Medical Consultants steps in.

The business, which opened in Ellet in September 2009, serves both patients and the medical industry; its goal is to streamline and enhance the bill-paying and cash collection process, according to EMC's President, Lynnette Catalanotto. With 23 years experience in the medical consulting field, Catalanotto says, "People pay for insurance -- they need to understand what they pay for. It's very complicated, but my focus is to take away the complexity."

Falls High graduate and former Falls resident Jeanette Brown is employed as EMC's resource and development director. She is an active member of the Cuyahoga Falls Chamber of Commerce and served Journey Covenant Church in Cuyahoga Falls when it was without a pastor. Her associations include the Board of Directors for Summit County Pregnancy Care and The Women's Auxiliary -- Summit County Salvation Army.

"I enjoy coming to work every day," Brown says, "because it's a win/win concept that we offer and we want to get the word out -- letting people know we can help them with their medical bills."

EMC offers consulting services to doctors, medical contractors, hospitals and insurance companies; audits existing bill paying services, identifying needs for improvement; trains medical service providers about proper coding; and educates the general public.

Having an advocate, like herself, unravel billing and bureaucratic problems, frees a patient and their family from added stress, according to Brown; a cancer patient was one of EMC's first clients, Catalanotto reports.

Headquartered at 526 Canton Road, Suite 212, EMC also trains those in the medical industry on topics like filing clean claims, filing appeals and understanding bundling.

Brown has more than 20 years experience in professional service. Catalanotto has extensive experience in the medical bill paying industry. EMC is a veteran-owned business; CEO Lynn Johnson is a Vietnam veteran and a retired counseling psychologist with 27 years service with the Vocational Rehabilitation & Employment Division of the Department of Veterans Affairs and the U.S. Army. Through EMC Johnson offers the Veterans Assurance Program, which provides medical bill management services to vets nationwide.

"Our business is passion-driven," Brown says. Since joining Executive Medical Consultants, Brown says, "Knowing we're helping people in tough times and educating them as we go -- I wouldn't trade my job for the world."

EMC offers memberships to the public and gift certificates are available.
