First United
Methodist Church

First United Methodist Church at 245 Portage Trail has two new Bible studies for women. They will be studying John Ortberg's "God Is Closer Than Your Think" for six weeks followed by a six-week Ortberg study, "The Life You've Always Wanted." There is an evening class and a morning class. The evening class meets on Tuesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. and will begin on Jan. 16. The morning class meets each Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon and begins on Feb. 10. Each participant should purchase their own material -- a book and a participant's guide either through a bookstore or online. For details, call 330-923-5241, ext. 210.

Going Strong, a group of active retirees at First Church invite all to their Jan. 14 meeting at 1 p.m. to hear speaker Attorney Barbara Weinschenk speaking about "Elder Law and Senior Scams." The program includes information about wills, trusts, guardianships, living wills and more. Refreshments will be served.

First Church has a R.O.C.K. (Reality Of Christ for Kids) Wednesday program for children ages 4 through sixth grade and welcome kids to join the fun every Wednesday from 4:15 to 7 p.m. Activities are vocal choirs for every age, bell choirs, rhythm class and boomwhackers, chimes, homework club and snacks, dinner, crafts, puppets, cooking and mission projects. There is a Chess Club or Caring Club for those in fourth to sixth grade. Northminster Presbyterian Church

The Northminster Presbyterian Church, 104 W. Portage Trail Extension, invites community members to join the congregation for the Sunday morning worship services at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Stephanie Crossland.

The Mission Committee will be sponsoring "Undie Sunday" on Jan. 17. This is a day set aside to bring in underwear for women and children. All items collected will be donated to ACCESS (Akron Citizens' Coalition for Emergency Shelter Services).

The Northminster Book Club continues to meet on the third Monday of each month at 1 p.m. Anyone who is interested in encouraged to come.

The Northminster Craft Guild will resume their regular meetings on the third Wednesday and third Saturday of each month. January's meetings will be on Jan. 16 and Jan. 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the church lounge. Come to one or come to both, and bring a current project and a sack lunch, for fun, conversation and fellowship.

United Presbyterian Church

The traditional service starts at 8:30 a.m. and the New Creation contemporary service starts at 11 a.m. The educational hour, including "Amazement Park" for elementary school age children, is from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Child care for babies and toddlers is available throughout the Sunday morning activities. Parking is available on church property. All are welcome.

On Jan. 10 from 7 to 8 p.m., the U. P. C. Youth Groups will meet at the church for both Middle School and High School groups.

U.P.C. is participating in an inter-church bowling league at Tallmadge Lanes, Monday evenings, beginning at 6:45 p.m.

PrayerLab will meet Jan. 12 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. PrayerLab is a ministry that focuses in on participants' prayer needs and helps participants grow in effective prayer. No agenda or liturgy so as to be Spirit-led.

Wednesday Night ALIVE! begins Jan. 13 and runs from 5:15 to 7:30 p.m. This is a family-oriented evening at the church that offers educational options for all ages and includes a family style dinner. This is a ten-week program and is open to all. For more details and for registration, contact the church office.

The Men's Breakfast will meet Jan. 16, beginning at 7:30 a.m. at the Silver Swan on Front Street in Cuyahoga Falls. The resource the men are using this year is: "Man Does Not Live By Sports Alone" by Dennis Swanberg.

St. John's
Episcopal Church

The 180th annual business meeting will be Jan. 17. Worship begins at 9 a.m. followed by the parish business meeting with vestry elections for the class of 2013. There will be a potluck dinner. Attendees should bring a dish to share.

The Outreach Committee is having a chili supper Jan. 12 from 5 to 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the door. All proceeds will go to outreach in the community.

St. Monica's will meet at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 14 at Donna Scourfield's house. The speaker will be from the United Disabilities Organization.

St. Margaret will meet at the church Jan. 14 at 10 a.m. They will be knitting squares to help the Keep Akron Warm project.

The congregation is asked to save Acme register tapes. They can be put in the Acme tape box in the downstairs hallway. The money obtained from these tapes goes to the Episcopal Church women's group to be used for their operating budget.

The Men's Breakfast meets at Reggie's Restaurant at 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 13.

The church is at 2220 Second St. A handicapped entrance and elevator is available.

Bailey Road
Christian Church

Bailey Road Christian Church will host a Chili/Soup Dinner and Pie Auction Jan. 15 at 6 p.m.

A donation of $5 per person is requested.
