Northminster Presbyterian Church The Northminster Presbyterian Church, 104 W. Portage Trail Extension, invites community members to join the congregation for the Sunday morning worship services at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Stephanie Crossland. The next spaghetti dinner will be on Jan. 8, from 5 to 7 p.m. The dinner includes spaghetti with marinara, chunky meat sauce or special Alfredo sauce, salad, bread, dessert and coffee, punch or tea. The cost is $7 for adults, $3.50 for children ages 6 to 12, and free for children 5 and under. The Mission Committee will be sponsoring "Undie Sunday" on Jan. 17. This is a day set aside to bring in underwear for women and children. All items collected will be donated to ACCESS (Akron Citizens' Coalition for Emergency Shelter Services). The Northminster Book Club continues to meet on the third Monday of each month at 1 p.m. Anyone who is interested in encouraged to come. The Northminster Craft Guild will resume their regular meetings on the third Wednesday and third Saturday of each month. January's meetings will be on Jan. 16 and Jan. 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the church lounge. Come to one or come to both, and bring a current project and a sack lunch, for fun, conversation and fellowship. The congregation continues to fill its Good Neighbors grocery cart on the second Sunday of each month, with non-perishable food items and brown grocery bags. First United Methodist Church in Cuyahoga Falls First United Methodist Church at 245 Portage Trail offers two new Bible studies for women. They will be studying John Ortberg's "God Is Closer Than You Think" for six weeks followed by a six-week Ortberg study, "The Life You've Always Wanted." There is an evening class and a morning class. The evening class meets on Tuesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. and will begin on Jan. 16. The morning class meets each Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon and begins on Feb. 10. Each participant should purchase their own material -- a book and a participant's guide either through a bookstore or online. Going Strong, a group of active retirees at First Church invite all to their Jan. 14 meeting at 1 p.m. to hear speaker Attorney Barbara Weinschenk speaking about "Elder Law and Senior Scams." The program includes information about wills, trusts, guardianships, living wills and more. Refreshments will be served. Bethany United Church of Christ Happy New Year! Jan. 3 is Epiphany Sunday and the church will celebrate communion at both worship services. Also, the first Sunday of each month, Bethany's volunteer nurses offer blood pressure tests during social hour. Prayer shawls are a means to extend the church's love and prayers to persons who may be homebound, ill or perhaps serve as a way to share a special joy such as a birth or birthday milestone. Bethany's Prayer Shawl group meets the second Monday of each month. If you are interested in this ministry please join them at 9:30 a.m. in the lounge. Sunday worship times at Bethany UCC are 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. with Church School for all ages at 9:15 a.m. The building is wheelchair accessible with handicapped parking. For information call 330-923-5277. Bethany United Church of Christ is located at 1235 Broad Blvd. St. John's Episcopal Church It is time to ask for applications to the Carlotta East Scholarship Fund. Any woman in St. John's wanting to further her education, upgrade her job skills to return to work, or take religious training can be helped. This fund has been assisting women with financial aid since it was established in 1945. The information is available on the bulletin board for ECW in the undercroft, or ask Jean Borda. Join the congregation on Jan. 12 from 5 to 7 p.m. for a chili supper prepared by the men of St. John's. Adults (ages 13 and up) cost $6, youth ages 6 to 12 are $4, and children 5 years or younger are free. All proceeds will be used for Outreach Ministry. There will be another book sale in April. Bring any books to the church and place them in the hallway. There will be no January board meeting for the ECW board. The next meeting will be Feb. 4. The 2010 Flower and Candle sign-up charts are now available downstairs in the undercroft. The church is located at 2220 Second St. A handicapped entrance and elevator is available. Bailey Road Christian Church Fall to Spring hours run through May: 9:30 a.m., Sunday School for all ages; 10:45 a.m., worship service; 7 p.m., Praise Service. Nursery care provided during these services for ages infant through 3 years of age. First and third Tuesday: 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., Happy Hands, crafts and sewing. Fourth Tuesday of each month: 7 p.m., Christian Women's Fellowship business/book study: "Behold Your God." Wednesdays: 12:30 p.m., chair dancing, a seated exercise program; 6:30 p.m., hand chimes practice; 7:30 p.m., choir practice. Thursdays: 7 p.m., Praise Team practice. On the first Friday of the month at 10 a.m. is the Feed My Sheep program. Members of the church volunteer to serve lunch at Redeemer Methodist Church. On the last Friday of the month at 10 a.m. is the Altercare program. Members of the church serve cookies, doughnuts, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate to the residents of Altercare.
