The Church in The Church in Silver Lake invites community members to a Service of Thanksgiving at its 10:30 a.m. Sunday Worship on Nov. 22. Included will be readings from "The Mayflower Compact, 1620" as well as singing the Traditional hymns of Thanksgiving. All are welcome. The church is located at 2951 Kent Road, Silver Lake. All are invited to worship with the congregation at this event. Nov. 28 will mark the beginning of the 24th year that Soup's On has been serving the community. One hundred and fifty are expected at the Nov. 28 meal. There will be a Christmas Shop where parents and grandparents attending the meal can pick out toys for their children. Several dozen students and adult volunteers volunteer their time to help. The Episcopal Church Women's annual Christmas Tea will be Dec. 6 from 4 to 6 p.m. Ticket donation is $8 - advance sales only. The Community Thanksgiving Service will take place at the First United Methodist Church on Nov. 25 at 7 p.m. and will include the First Christian Church, St. John's and the First United Methodist Church. The church is located at 2220 Second St. Northminster Presbyterian Church The Northminster Presbyterian Church, 104 W. Portage Trail Extension, invites community members for the Sunday morning worship service at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Stephanie Crossland. Nov. 22 will be the Thank Offering Sunday with Rev. Crossland speaking on "All the People Rejoiced!" Through the end of November, the Mitten Tree will be up in the Narthex of the church where mittens, gloves, scarves and hats will be collected and sent to Sunset Gap, Tenn., in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains. First United Methodist Church A Community Thanksgiving Eve service will take place at First United Methodist Church, 245 Portage Trail on Nov. 25, at 7 p.m. First Christian Church, St. John's Episcopal and First Church have come together to provide an evening of worship and Thanksgiving for members of the community. The Rev. Gail Lindsey will deliver the evening message and there will also will be hymns, special music, prayers of thanksgiving with fellowship and refreshments following the service. The offering emphasis will be in support of the local Good Neighbors organization. Child care will be available. Coming up at First Church on Nov. 29 at 3 p.m. is First Church organist H. Dean Wagner presenting "The Complete Organ Works of J.S. Bach, Part XV." This concert includes music appropriate for Advent and Christmas as Mr. Wagner continues his monumental task of performing the complete organ works of J.S. Bach. Babysitting is available. A free will offering to benefit the First Church Art Series program will be taken. Enjoy caroling and a Christmas music concert on Dec. 2. Community members are invited to go Christmas Caroling with members and children of First Church from 6 to 7:30 p.m. followed by a concert of music to begin the Christmas season by the local vocal group, "Peace Together," at 7:30 p.m. in the church sanctuary. First Church is having its second annual Madrigal Dinner on Dec. 5, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Take a step back to medieval times during this evening of period music by the vocal group, "722," hors d'oeuvres, a feast, royal costuming, much merriment and the traditional boar's head procession. United Presbyterian Church On Nov. 22, U.P.C. will host one service that morning beginning at 10:45 a.m. The Women's Thank Offering Service this year will feature Cheryl Buxamusa, from Youngstown in her presentation as Corrie Ten Boom. Corrie Ten Boom was involved in the hiding of Jews in the Netherlands during World War II and survived the Ravensbruck Concentration Camp. Her story is featured in the motion picture "The Hiding Place." Mrs. Buxamusa lived in the Netherlands for 18 years. She knew Ms. Ten Boom personally and sang in the meetings where Corrie spoke. On Nov. 22 from 7 to 8 p.m., the U. P. C. Youth Groups will meet at the church for both Middle School and High School groups. On Nov. 23, the Ruth Circle will meet in the Church Parlor at 1 p.m. U.P.C. is participating in an inter-church bowling league at Tallmadge Lanes, Monday evenings, beginning at 6:45 p.m. PrayerLab will meet Nov. 24, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. PrayerLab is ministry that focuses in on participants' prayer needs and helps participants grow in effective prayer. Pastor Steve will be sharing about the congregation and the United Church of Christ. He'll also answer any questions and respond to any concerns. Prepare for Thanksgiving Day. On Nov. 25 at 7:30 p.m., the church will have its Thanksgiving Eve Communion worship service. Child care will be provided. Nov. 29 is the First Sunday of Advent and communion will be at both services. Christian Education will host an Advent Celebration after the 10:30 a.m. service. All are invited. Again this year Bethany has a Giving Tree that will benefit 14 families at H.M. Life Opportunities and the families of IHN. IHN is an emergency shelter for homeless families and HM Life Opportunities provides transitional housing to families up to two years. The Giving Tree will contain gift tags for certificates to area businesses for the IHN families when they move into their new homes. It will also have tags for requested gift items from members of 14 families from HM Life that the church has committed to support for the holidays. The church has also added a few toy items that they are in need of for the IHN families when they stay with congregation members for the week. Contact the church office to obtain a gift tag. The church is located at 1235 Broad Blvd. Falls Berean Bible Church The public is invited to attend a special presentation by the Bob Jones University Music Ministry Team at Falls Berean Bible Church, 1736 Bailey Road, on Nov. 29 at 10:30 a.m. The group will present a program of familiar hymns and gospel songs consisting of vocal, piano and instrumental music, as well as testimonies from team members. Broadman Baptist Church Broadman Baptist Church "A church that makes a difference," is located at 350 E. Bath Road. For more information, call the church at 330-923-6127.
