St. John's Episcopal Church

St. John's will be celebrating its 179th birthday on Nov. 22. All are invited to worship with the congregation at this event.

Anyone who has a loved one serving in the military overseas during the holidays, and would like them to receive a care package, forward the address information to Donna Scourfield at 330-920-1754 by Nov. 17.

St. Theresa will meet Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. and will be cleaning the Nave. The Double T Quilt Club meets at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 19 and will be available for members to learn the art of hand quilting. All are welcome.

The Community Thanksgiving Service will take place at the First United Methodist Church this year and will include the First Christian Church, St. John's and the First United Methodist Church.

Northminster Presbyterian Church

The Northminster Presbyterian Church, 104 W. Portage Trail Extension, invites community members for the Sunday morning worship service at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Stephanie Crossland. Nov. 22 will be the Thank Offering Sunday with Rev. Crossland speaking on "All the People Rejoiced!"

The Pioneer Club, the church's non-denominational youth club for ages 4 through seventh grade continues to meet on Thursday evenings at 6, for fun, learning, crafts, music, snacks and an opportunity to earn badges. In November, the Pioneer Club classes will be making jars for Friendship Soup, to be given to Good Neighbors. They will continue to meet through Dec. 17, and will start again in January.

The Children's Sunday School for children in grades one through five (The Shining Stars Class) meets each Sunday morning during the worship service, following "A Moment with the Children." Students in grades six through eight (The New Beginnings Class) are invited to meet in the Youth Room during the same time. Children through kindergarten meet in the child care room each Sunday, during the worship service.

During the month of November, the Mitten Tree will be up in the Narthex of the church where mittens, gloves, scarves and hats will be collected and sent to Sunset Gap, Tenn., in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains. Sunset Gap has been a Mission of the Presbyterian Church since the early 1900s. Last year, 149 items were collected and sent in time for Christmas, to the children living in this Appalachian area.

The Northminster Book Club will be meeting on the third Monday of each month. Their next meeting will be Nov. 16 at 1 p.m. The group will be reading and discussing "Water For Elephants" by Sara Gruen. The book is available at bookstores and at the public library. Anyone who is interested is encouraged to come.

Everyone is encouraged to bring non-perishable food items and brown grocery bags on the second Sunday of each month, to help fill the grocery cart for Good Neighbors. Current needs include cereal, tuna fish, spaghetti, and pudding.

First United Methodist Church in Cuyahoga Falls

Help provide Christmas joy to children in more than 100 countries by joining members of First Church in Operation Christmas Child. Just fill a shoe box and bring it to the church by Nov. 21, at 10 a.m. Instructions for filling the boxes and prayer guide bookmarks are available at the church. A Community Thanksgiving Eve service will take place at First Church on Nov. 25, at 7 p.m. First Christian Church, St. John's Episcopal and First Church have come together to provide an evening of worship and Thanksgiving for members of the community. The Rev. Gail Lindsey will deliver the evening message and there will also be spiritual music, prayers of thanksgiving, fellowship and refreshments following the service. The offering emphasis will be in support of the local Good Neighbors organization. Child care will be available.

United Presbyterian Church

On Nov. 15, the guest speaker at U.P.C. will be David Kiewit, Relationship Development Director for Hope Homes in Stow. Hope Homes is a private, charitable organization whose purpose is to develop and provide housing, residential services, supported living services and day services for persons with mental retardation, developmental disabilities, and other special needs.

On Nov. 15, from 7 to 8 p.m., the U. P. C. Youth Groups will meet at the church for both Middle School and High School groups.

U.P.C. is participating in an inter-church bowling league at Tallmadge Lanes, Monday evenings, beginning at 6:45.

PrayerLab will meet Nov. 17, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. PrayerLab is ministry that focuses in on participants' prayer needs and helps participants grow in effective prayer.

On Nov. 18, Wednesday Night ALIVE! meets for adult seminars and activities that involve the entire family. WNA! begins at 5:15 p.m. A family-style supper is served at 6 p.m. Six adult learning and growth opportunities are offered this term. Child care is available.

On Nov. 19, D.M.A. (Don't Mention Age), a social group for senior citizens, will meet in the Fellowship Hall for lunch beginning at noon and followed by a program at 1 p.m. This month, speaker Linda Alexander will present a program on Clara Discoll and the Tiffany Girls.

The Men's Breakfast will meet Nov. 21, beginning at 7:30 a.m. at the Silver Swan on Front Street in Cuyahoga Falls. The resource the men are using this year is: "Man Does Not Live By Sports Alone" by Dennis Swanberg.

Also on Nov. 21, the U.P.C. Food Pantry will be distributing food from 9 to 11 a.m. Those receiving food must register through Info Line by calling either 211 or 330-376-6660.

Later in the day, Nov. 21, the Women's Brown Bag Lunch and Discussion Group will meet in the Church Library from noon to 2 p.m.

On Nov. 22, U.P.C. will host one service that morning beginning at 10:45 a.m. The Women's Thank Offering Service this year will feature Cheryl Buxamusa, from Youngstown in her presentation as Corrie Ten Boom.

Corrie Ten Boom was involved in the hiding of Jews in the Netherlands during World War II and survived the Ravensbruck Concentration Camp. Her story is featured in the motion picture "The Hiding Place." Mrs. Buxamusa lived in the Netherlands for 18 years, and knew Ms. Ten Boom personally and sang in the meetings where Corrie spoke.

First United Methodist Church of Akron

Everyone is invited to a spaghetti dinner Nov. 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. In addition to spaghetti with meat sauce there will be salad, bread, beverage and dessert. Tickets for the dinner are $6 for adults and $3 for children ages 3-12.

The church hosts these dinners regularly on the third Friday of the month.

"The Guest," a Thanksgiving Dinner Theater, will be presented by the Fellowship Players of First United Methodist Church of Akron Nov. 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the church social hall. This event is sponsored by the Keystone Class. Tickets for the dinner and play are $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 5 through 12, and children under 5 are free. Tickets may be purchased through the office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Bethany United Church of Christ

Women's Fellowship will meet Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. in the lounge. Group member Ruth Schreiber will portray "Eleanor Roosevelt."

The Men's Breakfast is a great time for men of the church to get together to share faith, food, and fellowship together; as well as a few chores with which the custodians could use some help. Their next breakfast is Nov. 18.

Bethany Kitchen provides a free luncheon for those in the community who need a meal. Help is always needed for food preparation, serving and cleaning up. Please consider donating a turkey for the dinner this month. All are welcome to attend Nov. 21 at 11:30 a.m. and enjoy fellowship and lunch.

Prepare for Thanksgiving Day. A special way for you to reflect and give thanks for God's blessings as the church prepares for the Thanksgiving holiday is to join the congregation Nov. 25 at 7:30 p.m. for the church's Thanksgiving Eve Communion worship service.

Bethany is collecting non-perishable items and cash donations the next few weeks in November for Thanksgiving Baskets going to clients of Good Neighbors in Cuyahoga Falls. Donations are being accepted through Dec. 6.

Bethany has a Giving Tree that will benefit 14 families at H.M. Life Opportunities and the families of IHN. IHN is an emergency shelter for homeless families and HM Life Opportunities provides transitional housing to families up to two years. The Giving Tree will contain gift tags for certificates to area businesses for IHN families when they move into their new homes. It will also have tags for requested gift items from members of 14 families from HM Life that the church has committed to support for the holidays. Falls Berean Bible Church

The public is invited to attend a special presentation by the Bob Jones University Music Ministry Team at Falls Berean Bible Church, 1736 Bailey Road, on Nov. 29 at 10:30 a.m.

The group will present a program of familiar hymns and gospel songs consisting of vocal, piano and instrumental music, as well as testimonies from team members. The leader of the team, Shaun Dunn, will close the service with a brief message from the Word of God.
