Teen draws charges after lying about who beat him

Cuyahoga Falls -- An 18-year-old Falls man who falsely accused police of beating him was arrested on Nov. 8 in the 2500 block of Third Street and charged with trespassing, obstruction of justice, drug abuse and disorderly conduct.

Police and EMS had responded to an assault call on Washington Street around 1 a.m. According to police, the Falls man had been beaten by a man who was dating his ex-girlfriend at a party and got a ride to his grandfather's house. The Falls man, however, had left the scene before authorities arrived.

Police found the individual about 40 minutes later on Third Street. The man, who had a bloody nose and fat lip, tried to tell officers he was beaten by other police officers. He told officers the truth when they said they knew what happened. While being taken into custody, the man was found to have a plastic bag of suspected marijuana in his pants pocket.

An officer drove him to a hospital to get stitches, police said.

Missing person

Nov. 6 -- Whereabouts unknown. At press time, police were looking for Sonya Petty, 47, a resident of the 2600 block of Third Street who was reported missing by her mentor. Missing since Oct. 25, Petty is a white female, 5 feet 2 inches tall, 170 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes, police said. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 330-928-2181.

Discharging of firearms

Nov. 8 -- Shots heard. A 47-year-old Falls man was arrested and charged with discharging of firearms after police were called to the 2900 block of Cedar Hill Road around 1:15 p.m. for shots fired.

Theft of firearms

Nov. 8 -- Two guns taken. A resident of the 600 block of Orrville Avenue reported someone he knows removed two handguns from his house between Oct. 25 and 4 a.m. Nov. 8. Loss was $1,000. Police have a suspect.

Vehicle theft

Nov. 8 -- Focus not there. An Akron woman reported someone took her 2000 Ford Focus without permission while it was parked in a driveway in the 1000 block of Francis Avenue between 11:50 p.m. and midnight. The car was unlocked and running at the time, the report said. Estimated loss is $3,000.

Identification fraud

Nov. 5 -- No credit. A Falls woman reported someone took her 14-year-old daughter's credit card from the Falls High School cafeteria on Nov. 2 and the card was used to purchase $500 worth of items. Police are following leads.

Burglary

Nov. 5 -- Another gun stolen. The resident of the 3200 block of Eighth Street reported someone kicked in his front door on Nov. 4 while he wasn't home and stole a .22-caliber rifle. Estimated loss was $300. The resident was arrested two days later and charged with illegally manufacturing methamphetamine (see related story on Page 11).

Nov. 5 -- Illegal entry. A resident of Hollywood Avenue reported someone broke into her house between 6 and 11:15 a.m. and stole a portable media player speaker set and docking station worth $130. Entry was gained by kicking in the back door, causing $200 in damage. The victim also reported that the driver's side door of her car was dented while it was parked in the driveway. Damage to the car was $500. Police have leads.

Theft

Nov. 5 -- Future forgery fodder? A Falls physician reported someone stole a partial prescription pad from his office in the 400 block of Tallmadge Road from noon on Nov. 4 and noon Nov. 5. Estimated loss is $65. Police have leads.
