First United Methodist Church Jennifer Hanselman will speak at Going Strong at First United Methodist Church, 245 Portage Trail, Cuyahoga Falls on Nov. 12 at 1 p.m. in Wesley Hall. The mother of sextuplets and resident of Cuyahoga Falls will present a program entitled "Return of the Party of Nine." All are invited to hear stories of the Hanselman household as the babies turn into energetic preschoolers who keep their parents and big brother hopping. "Tis the Season to be Stressed," a women's in-house retreat will be on Nov. 14, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at First Church. Women are invited to treat themselves to a fun, relaxing day of laughter and food. Speaker Nickie Keagy will teach women strategies to manage stress focusing on special considerations of stress for women during the holiday season. Attendees can choose two interest groups to attend from the following: holiday table arrangement; making earrings or pendant; cookie magic; new appetizers; Christmas on a budget; family dynamics during the holidays; surviving the holidays after the loss of a loved one; leaving a legacy of faith through your traditions; learn simple gifts to make and take. Help provide Christmas joy to children in more than 100 countries by joining members of First Church in Operation Christmas Child. St. John's Episcopal Church Continuing the lessons about angels, St. Andrew's will visit the congregation on Nov. 8 at the 10 a.m. service. The every member canvas pledge drive runs through Nov. 8. Members are asked to return their pledge card by Nov. 8. The All Day Diocesan Convention will be Nov. 13 and 14. The Rev. Deborah Rankin and three delegates will represent the church. The Community Thanksgiving Service will take place at the First United Methodist Church this year and will include the First Christian Church, St. John's and the First United Methodist Church. St. Monica and St. Margaret will meet at 10:30 and 10 a.m. respectively in the undercroft on Nov. 12. The Men's breakfast meets Nov. 11; all are welcome. The church is located at 2220 Second St. Northminster Presbyterian Church The Northminster Presbyterian Church, located at 104 W. Portage Trail Extension, invites community members to join the congregation for its Sunday morning worship service at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Stephanie Crossland. Rev. Crossland will focus on Stewardship on Nov. 8, speaking on "Our Whole Living," and again on Nov. 15 with Stewardship dedication and "Birth Pangs." Nov. 22 will be the Thank Offering Sunday with Rev. Crossland speaking on "All the People Rejoiced!" Fall programming is underway. The Pioneer Club, the non-denominational youth club for ages 4-seventh grade continues to meet on Thursday evenings at 6 p.m., for fun, learning, crafts, music, snacks and an opportunity to earn badges. In November, the Pioneer Club classes will be making jars of Friendship Soup, to be given to Good Neighbors. They will continue to meet through Dec. 17, and will start again in the new year in January. The next Spaghetti Dinner will be Nov. 13, from 5 to 7 p.m. The dinner includes spaghetti with marinara, chunky meat sauce or special Alfredo sauce, salad, bread, dessert and coffee, punch or tea. The cost is $7 for adults, $3.50 for children 6-12, and free for children 5 and under. The Northminster Book Club will be meeting on the third Monday of each month. The next meeting will be Nov. 16 at 1 p.m. The group will be reading and discussing "Water For Elephants" by Sara Gruen. The book is available at bookstores and at the public library. United Presbyterian Church The current message series at U.P.C. explores biblical prosperity, taking into fresh consideration the implications of God as humanity's source. The traditional service starts at 8:30 a.m. and the New Creation contemporary service starts at 11 a.m. The Educational Hour, including "Amazement Park" for elementary school age children, is from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Child care for babies and toddlers is available throughout the Sunday morning activities. New members classes are under way on Sunday evenings at the church from 7 to 8 p.m. U.P.C. is participating in an inter-church bowling league at Tallmadge Lanes, Monday evenings, beginning at 6:45 p.m. PrayerLab will meet Nov. 10 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. PrayerLab is ministry that focuses in on participants' prayer needs and helps participants grow in effective prayer. No agenda or liturgy so as to be Spirit-led. On Nov. 11, Wednesday Night ALIVE! meets for adult seminars and activities that involve the entire family. WNA! begins at 5:15 p.m. A family-style supper is served at 6 p.m. Six adult learning and growth opportunities are offered this term. Child care is available. On Nov. 15, the guest speaker at U.P.C. will be David Kiewit, relationship development director for Hope Homes in Stow. Hope Homes is a private, charitable organization whose purpose is to develop and provide housing, residential services, supported living services and day services for persons with mental retardation, developmental disabilities and other special needs. Bethany United Church of Christ Prayer shawls are a means to extend the church's love and prayers to persons who may be homebound, ill or perhaps a way to share a special joy such as a birth or birthday milestone. Bethany's Prayer Shawl Ministry will meet Nov. 9 at 9:30 a.m. Anyone who is interested in this group is invited to join them in the lounge. Bethany will be collecting non-perishable items the next few weeks for Thanksgiving Baskets for clients of Good Neighbors in Cuyahoga Falls. Please bring items in through Nov. 15. The Men's Breakfast is a time for men of the church to get together to share faith, food, and fellowship together; as well as a few chores with which the custodians could use some help. The men gather the third Wednesday of the month at 8 a.m. (next breakfast Nov. 18).
