Ward Council hopefuls submit finance reports

The committees for six of the eight Cuyahoga Falls City Council candidates who are involved in contested ward races filed pre-general election campaign finance reports with the Summit County Board of Elections.

Candidates who spent more than $1,000 or received more than $1,000 up through Oct. 14 were required to file the pre-general finance report.

The deadline to file the pre-election finance report was Oct. 22.

Among the ward candidates in contested races, Republican Ward 4 challenger Marianne Sandy collected the most monetary contributions with $2,473.77.

Democratic Ward 4 Councilman Mark Ihasz brought forward $315.17 from his previous report. While the Committee to Elect Mark Ihasz did not report any monetary contributions, he listed $800 under the other income category, which gave him $1,115.17 in available funds.

Ihasz reported $1,021.48 in expenditures, leaving an available balance of $93.69. Ihasz's committee also listed in $2,420 in outstanding loans that it owes.

Ihasz's highest expenditure was $836.03 to Triad Communications on Aug. 12 for palm cards and design. Ihasz loaned $800 to his committee during this reporting period. With $1,620 in loans from previous reports, there is a total of $2,420 in loans that the committee still owes.

The Committee to Elect Marianne Sandy reported $2,473.77 in monetary contributions and $1,373.89 in expenditures, leaving an available balance of $1,099.88.

Sandy's committee also reported $333.33 in in-kind contributions from Jeff Iula for Council at large committee.

Sandy's top contribution was a $1,010.44 check from Joseph F. Brodzinski Jr. DBA (Robart For Mayor) on Oct. 6, according to the finance report. Sandy also reported raising $878.33 at a fundraising event in fundraising.

Sandy's highest expenditure was $1,010.44 to Ad Graphics Inc. in Akron on Oct. 6 for handouts and fliers.

In Ward 6, The Committee to Elect Don Walters, who is the Democratic incumbent, brought $539.98 from the previous report, reported receiving $2,440 in monetary contributions and $2,036.64 in expenditures, leaving an available balance of $943.34.

The committee also listed $1,850 in outstanding loans. No other information on Walters' report was available.

The Campaign to Elect Judith Fradette Ward 6 Council reported $1,968.83 in monetary contributions and $1,333.50 in expenditures, leaving an available balance of $635.33.

Fradette is the Republican challenger in Ward 6.

Fradette's committee also reported $333.33 in in-kind contributions.

Fradette's top contributions were $880.50 on Sept. 1 from Joseph F. Brodzinski DBA Robart For Mayor and $808.33 on Sept. 19 from Friends of Jeff Iula.

Fradette's top expenditure was $880.50 on Sept. 18 to Ad Graphics Inc. for design, layout and printing of handouts.

The Committee For Colavecchio, which supports current Democratic Ward 5 incumbent Diana Colavecchio, did not bring any money forward from the previous report and did not report any monetary contributions during the reporting period. Colavecchio reported $255 in other income and $190.75 in expenditures, leaving an available balance of $64.25.

The committee also lists $8,134.49 in outstanding loans. According to the report, Colavecchio loaned $250 to her committee, and the committee paid $190.75 to Triad Communications Inc. on Sept. 8 for printing and proofing of stickers.

Friends Of Zach Myers, the Republican challenger in Ward 5, received $1,136 in monetary contributions, listed $254.50 in other income, and $1,043.16 in expenditures.

The Myers committee's top contribution was $250 on Aug. 15 from Dr. Patrick Folk of Cuyahoga Falls. The committee also reported receiving contributions of $100 each from At Large Councilwoman Carol Klinger (Sept. 1) and Kevin Coughlin-- Coughlin for Ohio (Sept. 15).

The Ward 8 City Council candidates -- Democratic challenger Jim Bouplon and Republican incumbent Terry Mader -- did not have pre-general election reports on file with the Board of Elections.
