First United Methodist Church The Rev. Katie Osier, youth pastor at First United Methodist Church, 245 Portage Trail in Cuyahoga Falls, invites all youth in grades 7-12 to take part in a fun morning of Messy Games at the church on Aug. 12 at 10 a.m. Participants are invited to bring a drink or snack, and come "dressed for mess and plan to have a great time." First Church is hosting guest musician Kim Costanza at both the 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. worship services on Aug. 16. Mr. Costanza, an outstanding saxophonist from the Pittsburgh area is an amazing talent with a great faith and love for Jesus that pervades his music. All are welcome. There is child care at both services and children's worship during the 10:30 a.m. service for those in grades K-6. An Ultimate Net Extravaganza will be held at First Church on Aug. 30 from 6:15 to 8 p.m. to benefit Nothing But Nets which provides nets for families in Africa to help stamp out malaria. Participants are asked to donate at least $10, which covers a whole family, to take part in the various net games and events being offered that evening for all age groups. Northminster Presbyterian Church Northminster Presbyterian Church, located at 104 W. Portage Trail Extension in Cuyahoga Falls, invites the public to worship with its congregation each Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Stephanie Crossland. Rev. Crossland's worship themes for August will include "Tips on Packing a Good Carry-On Bag," "Learning the Local Language," "Tips on Packing the Right Clothes" and "Finding the Perfect Balance." The worship service on Aug. 16 will be a casual, summer event staged outside under the trees in the memorial grove, by the pavilion. Rev. Crossland will speak on "Finding the Right Travel Companion." The service begins at 10:30 a.m. Those attending are invited to bring a lawn chair and wear sandals. In the event of rain, the service will be moved inside. This year's Good Neighbors Annual School Drive will run from Aug. 10-13. Among the many items that are needed are Crayola Crayons (16- and 24-count boxes), spiral notebooks, filler paper, pencils and pens, glue, scissors, erasers, school boxes and socks for all ages. Cash donations will be used to purchase shoe certificates. Everyone is also asked to help fill the Good Neighbors grocery cart on Aug. 9. The Northminster Craft Guild's Saturday chapter will meet on Aug. 15 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., and the Wednesday chapter will meet on Aug. 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Everyone is asked to bring their current project, a sack lunch and a friend. The annual church picnic and worship at the park is Aug. 9 at 10 a.m. at Water Works Park, Big Cuyahoga Shelter, 2025 Munroe Falls Ave. Meat, drinks, and tableware will be provided. The regular 8 a.m. Eucharist service will take place at the church. Bring a dish to share and a friend for the congregation to meet. Bath Road, on Sundays has prayer in the sanctuary at 9 a.m., coffee and fellowship at 9:30 a.m., Life Impact classes at 9:45 a.m., and a worship service at 11 a.m. Babysitting is available. On Wednesdays, the church hosts a fellowship meal at 5:30 p.m., worship and prayer service at 6:30 p.m., and studies with various age group classes from 7 to 8 p.m. Any business that would like prayer during this week simply needs to bring their business card by the church and give it to the administration team at the registration desk. The kids will remember a business by name in prayer for all who stop by and visit and leave a business card. United Presbyterian Church The Traditional Service starts at 8:30 a.m. and the New Creation Contemporary Service starts at 11 a.m. The Educational Hour, including "Amazement Park" for elementary school age children, is from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Child care for babies and toddlers is available throughout the Sunday morning activities. First United Methodist Church of Akron First United Methodist Church of Akron will conduct a drama camp for children entering grades Kindergarten through 8 on Aug. 10 through 16. The camp will meet from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday at the church, 263 E. Mill St., Akron. There will also be a Saturday dress rehearsal and the performance will be Aug. 16 at 12:30 p.m. The goal of the week will be to prepare and stage a musical. Each child will have the opportunity to be on stage, help with sets, props and costumes, and learn a bit about what goes into putting on a production. The registration fee is $20, which includes a T-shirt and a CD. Each additional child in a family is $15, with a $50 family maximum. The registration deadline is Aug. 5. The church is located two blocks north of the University of Akron campus. For anyone who would like to join the congregation for worship, but do not have a way to get here, the church has volunteers who can give people rides to the service. Just call the church and arrangements will be made for someone to pick up attendees and take them home. On the first Sunday of each month, Bethany's volunteer nurses offer blood pressure tests during social hour. Bethany's library has a new resource for those who have difficulty reading regular print. It is an easy-to-use machine that enlarges and brightens the printed page. Turn it on, slide the book under the magnifier and see the page bigger and brighter on the screen in front of the viewer. Angelus Shaughnessy, O.F.M., CAP (of ETWN) fame). The retreat was set to begin Aug. 8 and will continue through Aug. 12. Shaughnessy will have Mass at 9 a.m. each morning followed by a talk. Talk and benediction will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 10 and 11. There will be Mass and a talk Aug. 12 at 7 p.m. followed by a reception in Nolan Hall.
