DAN MAYETTE Sold Fuller Brush Dan Mayette, 85, died May 18, 2009, at Akron City Hospital from complications of a stroke. Mr. Mayette sold Fuller Brush products for more than 50 years on the streets of Cuyahoga Falls. His first job was a paper route that enabled him to help his family and to buy a bicycle at the age of 13. Mr. Mayette was a simple man who carried the Bible with him every day. To know him was to realize how much he loved the Lord, his family, and his country. He marked his Bible so that he could quickly go to an appropriate reading for all of man's needs. Whatever the occasion, Mr. Mayette found his answer in the Bible and marked it down for future reference. Some of his most cherished moments were spent praying for others. Mr. Mayette loved to share stories of when he held hands and prayed with others in need of God's blessings through Jesus Christ. Mr. Mayette was proud of his military service. He was an air crew instructor and part of the air engineer squadron with the Army Air Corps in World War II. Mr. Mayette met the love of his life, Bernice (Brown), when he asked her to dance at the ballroom of Euclid Beach Park. They were devoted to each other and their four children for the 46-plus years of their marriage. This ended with the passing of Bernice in 1994. This loss, as well as the passing of his eldest son, Danny, in 1977, did not alter Mr. Mayette's outgoing spirit. Not liking to cook much, Mr. Mayette became a regular at the Taco Bell on Graham Road and Hudson Drive, in Cuyahoga Falls. Employees there would often refer to him as "Chalupa Dan." They even once surprised him with a birthday cake. Hardly a day went by that that he didn't show up at least once for a meal. Mr. Mayette's unsteadiness on his feet the last few months caused him to finally retire. Mr. Mayette died May 18, at Akron City Hospital, just 10 weeks shy of his 86th birthday. Comments
