CAROLINE ELIZABETH LYMAN Woodridge Middle School student Caroline Elizabeth Lyman peacefully passed away at home in the arms of her mother, sister and father on June 7, 2009 at the age of 12 after a lifelong battle with Mitochondrial disease. Caroline was born in Akron on May 10, 1997. She just completed sixth grade at Woodridge Middle School, and was a member of Northampton United Methodist Church. She was the inspiration and proud leader of Team Caroline at the annual UMDF "Run Wild For A Cure" event. Caroline loved spending time at the Silver Lake pool, vacationing at Disney, walks on the beach and spending time with family and friends. Caroline's greatest joys were laying in her Dad's arms watching Browns games, shopping and spa days with her Mom and spending time watching movies with her little sister. Preceded in death by grandfather Larry Van Horn, she is survived by her parents Marty and Jennifer, sister Abigail, nana Lynne Van Horn, grandparents Ann and Fred Lyman, great-grandparents William and Ardis Ehman, aunts and uncles Amy (Paul) Laczo, Kate Van Horn, Michael (Tammy) Lyman and Jenny (Dan) Falls, cousins Paulie, Anna and William Laczo, Max and Paige Lyman, Alex and Andy Falls, and many other family members, friends and caregivers. A funeral service took place at Northampton United Methodist Church, with Pastor Brett Bartels officiating. The Caroline Lyman & Family Foundation was established a year ago to honor Caroline's life and her legacy of philanthropy and compassion. All proceeds from the fund contribute toward efforts that promote cures and treatments of mitochondrial disease at the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation and Palliative Care Initiatives at Akron Children's Hospital.
