LEONARD G. "LENNY" SCARBROUGH Enjoyed traveling Leonard G. "Lenny" Scarbrough, 94, died at his daughter's residence May 26, 2009. After a little over a year of ill health, Mr. Scarbrough lost his stoic battle to live to 100. He reached 94 with amazing good health until late 2007. He led a quiet life filled with his family and numerous friends and neighbors who reveled in his independent, quiet resolve to live on his own and take care of himself and his home. He loved to garden and be with his buddies at the Italian American Club. Mr. Scarbrough lost his wife, Margaretta, to whom he was married over 60 years in 1999 after taking care of her in her declining health for a number of years. He made a six-week trip to Europe at the age of 90. He was able to stay and travel with his granddaughter, Debbie and her husband John Kogucki. Together, they would travel to the great castles of England including the "Scarborough Castle" in Scarborough, England where his ancestors were from. He was able to travel to Italy and see sights he never thought were in his reach. He was preceded in death by his great-grandson, Rick in 2002, father and mother, James and Elvilda Scarbrough, and a family of two sisters and seven brothers. The only living brother is Leon Scarbrough of Phoenix. He is survived by his only daughter, Joan and her husband, Richard Bobbitt; granddaughter, Debbie and her husband, John Kogucki; grandson, Bryan and his wife, Cherry; great-granddaughter, Annah Bobbitt; great-grandsons, Bryse and Rylie Bobbitt and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws. A funeral service was conducted in The Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, Chaplain Mike Shaub officiating. Interment was at Chestnut Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of other remembrances, memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association, 1815 W. Market St., Suite 108, Akron, OH 44313, or Hospice of Summa, 444 North Main St., P.O. Box 2090, Akron, OH 44398-6153. Tribute video will be viewable on the funeral home Web site. Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Comments
