Indecisive suspects leave items behind after alleged break-ins

Cuyahoga Falls -- Police are investigating two incidents involving suspects who seemed to have changed their minds after beginning the crimes.

On Nov. 17, a resident of the 3000 block of Seventh Street reported someone pried open the door to his garage between 7 p.m. Nov. 15 and 7:30 a.m. Nov. 17 and took a $400 backpack-style leaf blower, which was found behind the garage. Damage to the door was $250.

On Nov. 15, the manager of a muffler shop on State Road reported someone entered the business overnight by breaking a window in the door and reaching in and unlocking it. Missing was $200 in cash and a bottle of beer. The bottle of beer, however, was found unopened outside near the door.

Domestic dispute

Nov. 17 -- Listen to Mama. Police said a woman in the 3300 block of Prange Drive was arguing with her 17-year-old daughter over what she was going to charge to watch her daughter's child for the weekend. Officers talked to the daughter about the laws against acting incorrigible.

Unlawful use of a vehicle

Nov. 17 -- Rental car is M.I.A. The manager of a rental car business on State Road reported a woman rented a car for one day on Sept. 12 and has yet to bring it back. The manager said he has called the woman and mailed her a registered letter. Police tried to call the woman, but could not reach her. A city prosecutor told police to delay charges until the woman is contacted.

Attempted theft by fraud

Nov. 17 -- Could have been costly. The owner of a business in the 1500 block of Main Street reported someone tried to defraud his company out of $9,500 through a fake deal for construction company with a check for $33,500 that was found to be fraudulent.

Drug paraphernalia possession

Nov. 16 -- Dad to the rescue. A 17-year-old Peninsula boy was arrested around 9:45 p.m. and charged with drug paraphernalia possession on Riverview Road at Bolanz Road after he was found in possession of a pipe reportedly used for smoking marijuana. The boy was released to his father when the father came to the scene of the arrest.

Petty theft

Nov. 16 -- Watch your wallet. A 27-year-old Falls man told police he accidentally left his wallet on a self-checkout stand inside a Graham Road grocery store around 6:44 p.m., and when he went back into the store to retrieve it, the wallet was gone. The loss was $50.

Theft from auto

Nov. 16 -- Hood missing its ornament. A 71-year-old resident of the 1600 block of 20th Street reported that sometime between 2 p.m. Nov. 15 and 4:30 p.m. Nov. 16 someone stole the Chief Pontiac hood ornament off of his 1978 Pontiac Catalina while it was parked in the parking deck of his apartment complex. Loss is $100. Police have no leads or suspects.

Grand theft from yard

Nov. 16 -- Purloined boiler. Police were informed someone stole a boiler from behind a garage on a rental property in the 800 block of Broad Boulevard between 3 p.m. Nov. 12 and 1 p.m. Nov. 16. Loss is $3,000. Detectives are still looking into leads.

Drug, weapon charges

Nov. 16 -- Three arrests. An 18-year-old Akron man and two 17-year-old boys from Cuyahoga Falls were arrested shortly after 4 p.m. in the parking lot of a bar on Hudson Drive and charged with drug abuse, drug paraphernalia possession and carrying a concealed weapon. They were found in possession of marijuana, a smoking device and a knife.

Drug charges, traffic offenses

Nov. 16 -- Catch and release. An 18-year-old Silver Lake man was stopped at 1 a.m. on state Route 8 at Broad Boulevard for a minor traffic violation and during the stop was found in possession of a metal marijuana smoking device and a Diazapam, a schedule IV drug of abuse. He was arrested and charged with drug abuse, drug paraphernalia possession, expired plates and improper turn, and then released on a personal recognizance bond.

Failure to control, OVI

Nov. 14 -- Bad choice. An 18-year-old Falls man was arrested at 9:45 p.m. and charged with operating a vehicle under the influence and failure to control after he drove his 1999 Nissan Maxima into a cement median on state Route 8 at Front Street and flipped it over. Police said he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol; test results were pending.

Shoplifting, trespassing

Nov. 14 -- Meaty case. An employee of Bailey Road grocery store called police at 4:15 p.m. after detaining a 50-year-old Akron man who tried to leave the store without paying for six packages of beef tenderloin worth $103. He was arrested and charged with shoplifting, as well as criminal trespassing because he had been previously banned from the store.

Theft by deception

Nov. 13 -- Business owner bamboozled. The owner of a business reported a former employee had allegedly taken a total of $7,500 from him since June 1 by pocketing money she said she was going to use to buy things for the establishment. The case is inactive until the victim supplies police with more information.
