by Ellin Walsh Reporter Cuyahoga Falls -- City Council has given "pause" to an address change requested by the Greater Akron Humane Society to "Paw." Two weeks ago, Council approved legislation which changed the name of the address at 222 Cochran Road to 222 Paw Place. That's the location of a new animal care and housing facility for the Humane Society in Cuyahoga Falls. But members weren't aware at the time "that a resident who lives at 223 Cochran Road would be affected by this ordinance," Councilmember Diana Colavecchio (D-5) said. The resident told Council he supports the address change for the Humane Society, but doesn't want his own address affected, said Colavecchio, the planning and zoning committee chair. Council agreed Nov. 10 to reconsider the legislation and send it back to the public affairs committee, thereby nullifying the original ordinance, according to the city's law director, Virgil E. Arrington Jr. "I will be working with the city engineer and street commissioner to see if this ordinance can be revised to accommodate both the Humane Society and the resident," Colavecchio said. Adopted measures By unanimous vote Nov. 10, Council authorized the annual renewal of the city's property and liability insurance policies. Arrington said the Wichert Insurance Agency provides the city with coverage through the Selective Insurance Co. The coverage is for property, machinery, crime, automobile, general liability, law enforcement liability and public officials liability coverage. According to Arrington, the renewal costs the city $273,624, for 12 months; he said that is a reduction in what the city paid for the same insurance last year: $291,660. However, this year the city will add a policy for public officials liability insurance at an additional cost of $38,950. Council also authorized a contract for construction of a 23kv express feed from the Valley Substation to the substation behind the service department complex on Bailey Road; installation of a conduit to complete street lighting on Cedar Hill; and the installment of new conduit in streets including Hollywood Avenue from Bailey Road to Hudson Drive; Roanoke Avenue from Hudson Drive to Charles Street; and Orrville Avenue, from Hudson Drive to Norwood Street. City Council will meet Nov. 17 at 6:15 p.m., at the Natatorium, 2345 Fourth St. E-mail: ewalsh@recordpub.com Phone: 330-686-3908 Comments
