City seeking workers for leaf program

The city of Cuyahoga Falls is recruiting workers for its Annual Fall Leaf Pickup Program. The program will run from Oct. 27 through Dec. 5. The hours are from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Qualified workers must be physically fit and able to work in all types of weather.

Interested candidates may visit the city's Human Resources department located on the second floor of the Municipal Building at 2310 Second St. or download an application at www.cityofcf.com.

Paper shredding offered Sept. 22 through 26

The Summit/Akron Solid Waste Management Authority (SASWMA) and Neoshred Inc. are partnering to offer a free confidential paper shredding event for Summit County communities during the week of Sept. 22 through 26.

Neoshred is located at 621 East Tallmadge Ave., Akron. Shredding will be available by appointment only on each day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

To participate in this event, Summit County communities must deliver all documents to Neoshred's facility. No pick up service is available.

Communities should contact Neoshred at 330-253-8260 to schedule an appointment.

Participants are asked to remove and reuse binder clips, rubber bands, hanging file folders, binders, paperclips, and report covers. All shredded documents will be recycled into new products such as tissue paper and paperboard by Ohio paper mills.

CPR Anytime event is Sept. 30

Citizens will have an opportunity to learn lifesaving CPR techniques and hear from people who have been saved by CPR and AED when they attend CPR Anytime at The Natatorium Sept. 30 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Each family will be given a CPR Anytime kit. The kit contains a practice DVD, personal inflatable CPR mannequin and CPR booklet.

When an adult has sudden cardiac arrest, his or her survival depends greatly on getting CPR from someone nearby, according to a release from the American Heart Association. Unfortunately, less than 1/3 of people who experience a cardiac arrest at home, work or in public get that help.

The event is free and sponsored by the American Heart Association, the city of Cuyahoga Falls and Beauty and the Banker (a partnership between MC Hair Consultants and Valley Savings Bank).

Silver Lake Mayor hosting event Oct. 4

Silver Lake Mayor Bernie Hovey and his wife Kathleen will host a Hot Dog Saturday event on Oct. 4 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the boathouse in Silver Lake Park.

Residents are invited to attend to enjoy free hot dogs, cider, pumpkin pie and other treats.
