Cuyahoga Falls -- Discussions on new utility meters and old meth labs will resume when City Council's committees meet July 7.

The finance committee will discuss legislation to approve contracting with Johnson Controls of Cleveland for the purchase and installation of new water and electricity meters for utility customers in the city. The ordinance was introduced April 28. Passage of the contract, as it stands, would cost the city $17.3 million.

An ordinance to establish rules governing the cleanup and disclosure of clandestine drug labs was introduced June 9. If passed, it would require the owner of a property where the toxic drug methamphetamine was made to pay for cleanup and police administrative costs.

The law would also require the owner or manager of the property to fully disclose the property's history to prospective buyers or renters. This ordinance will be further discussed by the city's public affairs committee. Concerns over the burden this law would put on landlords were voiced by residents and members of council during the June 16 committee meetiing.

There was also concern over charging the property owner police administrative costs involved with cleaning up a meth lab. No numbers were presented on June 16, so the ordinance was held until those exact costs could be reviewed.

City Council committees begin meeting at 6:15 p.m. in the Natatorium Conference Center, 2345 Fourth St.
