by Dean Raymond Correspondent Cuyahoga Falls -- A no-hitter by sophomore righthander Corey Rubright and some timely hitting from senior first baseman Lauren Toth sent host Walsh Jesuit past Richmond Edison 2-0 April 30 in girls high school softball action. Rubright (6-5) fanned 11 Lady Wildcat batters in the game and retired the last 13 hitters she saw, including seven on strikeouts. "It was nice to pitch a no-hitter," Rubright said. "My defense helped me out. My riseball was my best pitch. I got a lot of girls out on that pitch. Everything was working for me tonight." The Lady Warriors (10-7) only got four hits themselves but two were from Toth and it was just enough to defeat Richmond Edison (11-9). In the Walsh Jesuit fourth, Toth led-off with a double to centerfield as sophomore Jacqui Endre ran for her. Endre went to third base on a wild pitch and, with one out, scored when the throw home from second base on a grounder off the bat of sophomore Calia Battista was a little late. The Lady Warriors scored again in the bottom of the sixth inning as Toth tripled to rightfield with one out and scored as a fly-ball off the bat of Rubright was dropped by the Lady Wildcat outfielder. Meanwhile, Richmond Edison senior righthander Autumn Bendle (4-5) pitched well, too, going the distance with four strikeouts and just one walk. Rubright also issued just one free pass on the evening with one out in the first inning. Each team committed one error. The Lady Wildcats left two on base while Walsh Jesuit stranded five. "We played well," Lady Warrior head coach Larry Deeks said. "We played to our expectations and I've been waiting awhile for us to do that. I was really happy with our effort. Lauren (Toth) came through at the plate for us." Battista and junior leftfielder Jen Omlor also had singles in the game for Walsh Jesuit.
