The Cuyahoga Falls High School Instrumental Music Department will present the 47th annual Musical Horizons show, "Horizons 2008: That's Entertainment," at the Cuyahoga Falls High School Auditorium on May 9 and 10 at 7:30 p.m. This year's show will feature the Gold Tones Jazz Orchestra, directed by Chris DeMarco, as well as vocalists Samantha Cole and Eric Schneider and the Tiger Band Majorettes. A highlight of this year's show will be the debut of an arrangement written for the Gold Tones by the founder of the Gold Tones, Robert H. Feldbush. This piece will be used as the show's opening number. Horizons '08 will spotlight traditional Big Band swing and contemporary sounds in an evening of music featuring selections from the silver screen and favorites from this year's Gold Tones repertoire. Selections from the Gold Tones' jazz festival set, including "Tenor Madness" and "The Silver Tinge" will be included in Act I. Tenor Madness will feature tenor saxophonists Alicia Eckman and Jeff Kuelling. The Silver Tinge pays homage to the great jazz composer and pianist Horace Silver. Lead alto saxophonist Jimmy Lang will be spotlighted for "My Foolish Heart." Solo vocalist Samantha Cole will be presented on "Jumpin' East of Java," from the Brian Setzer Orchestra and Leonard Bernstein's "Somewhere." Music from such films as "Beauty and the Beast," "The Wizard of Oz," and "The Jungle Book" will be performed. The Tiger Band Majorettes will also be on hand to perform to the theme from the "Pink Panther" in this year's show. Act II will feature Cinemagic, a revue of Hollywood's best movie music, including a medley of Oscar-winning songs and movie favorites. The show will close with Selections from "Dream Girls." The Cuyahoga Falls High School art department will present an exhibition of students' works in the front lobby during the show. The May 10 performance will be professionally recorded and will be released on CD by Soundwaves. This will be the Gold Tones' 12th CD release. Orders will be taken at the shows.
