Hostel hosts pancake fundraiser May 4

The Northeast Ohio Council of Hostelling International is hosting its 22nd annual Stanford Hostel Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser on May 4. Pancakes will be served from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Stanford Hostel, 6093 Stanford Road in Peninsula. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. All proceeds benefit the hostel. Chronic pain group gathers May 6

The Chronic Pain Support Group at Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital will have a speaker from Summit Pain Specialists Inc. at its May 6 meeting. A representative from Summit Pain Specialists will speak on the overview of chronic pain and fibromyalgia. The meetings take place on the first and third Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. in auditorium 1 at Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital, 1900 23rd St. The meetings are free and open to all with chronic pain.

Investors group will meet May 6

The American Association of Individual Investors will meet on May 6 at the Akron Public Library Main Branch at 60 S. High St. No membership is required. The group meets at 6:30 p.m. Parking is free in the library deck after 6 p.m.

Lou Floyd will be the guest speaker. Floyd has been a lifetime AAII member since the 1980s and is a current member of the Akron group.

Documentary on Iraq War being shown May 7

The Progressive Democrats of America -- Ohio and American Friends Service Committee, will present a free film and discussion on May 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the Akron-Summit Library, 60 S. High St., Akron.

The film being shown is "Meeting Face to Face: The Iraq-U.S. Labor Solidarity Tour."

This film, produced by The Center for Study of Working Class Life, follows six senior Iraqi labor leaders as they visit 25 U.S. cities, sharing their experiences of war and their visions for the future. The tour was sponsored by U.S. Labor Against the War and ended at the AFL-CIO National Convention where an anti-war resolution was passed.

There will be a guest speaker from Military Families Speak Out, an international organization of more than 4,000 families of U.S. troops who oppose the Iraq occupation. High School Students For Peace will be collecting small toiletry items, socks, tan or brown T-shirts, sunscreen, wet wipes, etc. for U.S. troops.

Free and open to the public. The library is not a sponsor of this event.

Federation of Women's Clubs will meet May 7

The Akron and Summit County Federation of Women's Clubs will meet May 7 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Methodist Church, 263 E. Mill St., Akron, with president Evelyn Churchill presiding. Mary Lou Gault, scholarship chairman, will introduce Dr. C. William Keck. Keck's subject is "National Health Progress in Cuba."

MOMS Club
meets May 8

The MOMS Club of Cuyahoga Falls will host its monthly meeting on May 8 at 10 a.m. The Club is a group for stay-at-home moms or moms who work but are home during the day. Children are welcome to attend all club activities.

Family and Friends Connected Military Support Group will host its monthly meeting on May 9 at Panera Bread, 689 Howe Road. All meetings begin at 6 and end at 7:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

Card party lunch for Falls Cancer Club
May 9

A card party luncheon to support the Falls Cancer Club will take place May 9 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Quirk Cultural Center, 1201 Grant Ave.

The event includes door prizes and a raffle.

Falls chapter of DAR will meet May 10

Members of the Cuyahoga Falls Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution will meet at the home of Regent Claire Allen on May 10 at 10 a.m. for a meeting. New member Kathleen Wagner will be installed. A review of the DAR State Conference, which took place in Columbus in April, will be given by the officers who attended. Final arrangements will be made for participation in the Cuyahoga Falls Memorial Day Parade. Members are asked to bring comfort items and socks to be delivered to the veterans at Brecksville Hospital. Following the meeting, members will tour the Mustill Store in Akron. Author will sign book at Kent store May 10

Susan Wells, author of "Spiritual Boot Camp for the Brave Cancer Soldier," will sign copies of her book on May 10 from 11 a.m. to noon at Logos Bookstore, 976 West Main St., Kent.

Cuyahoga Falls Travel Club plans events

The Cuyahoga Falls Travel Club announces the following trips (All journeys depart from Quirk Cultural Center, 1201 Grant Ave.) Participants do not have to be a member of the travel club to go on the trips. For more information, call 330-971-8425.

Hampton-Falls AARP schedules meeting

The Hampton-Falls AARP welcomes guests and to attend one of its monthly meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at the Cathedral Buffet on State Road.
