Letter carriers across the nation will collect non-perishable food items on May 10. This national food drive for the needy is now in its 16th year. Last year, 70 million pounds of food was collected nationwide in six hours for distribution to local food banks. Letter carriers from Cuyahoga Falls, Silver Lake, Stow and Munroe Falls (Union Branch 1629) will again be among those helping to collect on May 10 in this area. Last year, the local carriers collected 26,500 pounds of food, which went to the Haven of Rest in Akron. The carriers are asking community members to leave non-perishable food items by their mailboxes in plastic bags on May 10, which will be picked up by their letter carrier as he or she delivers the mail. In addition, collection boxes will be set up during the week of May 5 in the lobbies of the Cuyahoga Falls and Stow post offices where residents can drop off food. Anyone who has more than a few items to donate may call 330-928-9137 or 330-688-9288 for pick-up service. Comments
