Fallsnewspress.com - More than $2,500 in equipment stolen from Little League N.

An official for Little League North reported March 28 equipment worth an estimated $2,503 was stolen at various times beginning last October.

The items were taken from a storage building at the organization's facility at 4001 Wyoga Lake Road.

Missing were 50 to 60 aluminum bats, 10 sets of catcher's gear, 10 helmets and a batting net. No signs of forced entry were found. Detectives are following up on leads.

DUI, drug charges

March 30 -- Possible pot. After being observed driving erratically and nearly hitting another vehicle, a Falls man, 31, was stopped at 2:23 a.m. by police at Ninth Street and Portage Trail. Suspectedmarijuana and a tin-foil pipe were found in his vehicle's ash tray. Refusing a Breathalyzer test, he was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, drug abuse and drug paraphernalia.

Thefts

March 31 -- Exhausting work. The manager of a Remington Road business reported the catalytic converters of four company vehicles were removed with cutting tools between 5 p.m. March 25 and 5:30 p.m. March 30. Value was estimated at $836. Police have no leads or suspects.

March 30 -- Movie collection stolen. A 23-year-old man reported his mother's house in the 500 block of East Broadway was entered and 150 DVD movies valued at $1,500 were taken from her basement between noon March 22 and 4 p.m. March 26. There were no signs of forced entry.

March 30 -- Game over. An employee of an electronics store on Howe Avenue reported someone tried to steal a Nintendo DS video game system by concealing it in his pants. The system, valued at $34.99, was recovered, and an 18-year-old Akron man was arrested and charged with theft.

March 29 -- Relief in sight. The manager of a discount store in the 1700 block of State Road reported that between 5:52 and 5:53 p.m. a woman whom she recognized as a past customer took several items in the pain relief aisle, put them in her purse and left without paying. Loss was valued at $34.75. The case remains under investigation.

Driving under suspension

March 31 -- Followed home. A 35-year-old 15th Street man driving a vehicle with expired plates was followed home by police around 1:30 a.m. when he didn't stop for them at 15th Street and Ohio Avenue. He was cited for driving under suspension, expired plates and obstructing official business.

Burglaries

March 30 -- Kitchen entered. A resident of the 1200 block of Center Avenue reported someone broke out the kitchen window on his house at 10:50 p.m. and stole his wallet, a Cadiz woman's purse, and a jar of quarters. Damage was estimated at $250 for the window. Monetary loss was $1,240. There are no leads or suspects.

March 28 --Appliances taken. A Treasch Drive woman reported her deceased father's apartment was entered between 1 p.m. March 8 and 9 a.m. March 28 through a possibly unlocked front door. An older-model stove and refrigerator, valued at $60, were stolen. The case remains under investigation.

Aggravated burglary

March 28 --Victim assaulted. A 16-year-old male resident of the 2500 block of Ninth Street reported that at 8 p.m. two males he did not know forced their way into his home and physically assaulted him, both punching him in the face, head and ribs. They fled with $40 in cash. The victim did not require medical attention. Police have suspects and are investigating.

Accidents

March 25 -- Injury accident. A 22-year-old Falls woman was transported to Akron Children's Hospital with possible injuries following a 10:21 a.m. crash on North Haven Boulevard at 21st Street. Driving south on 21st, the 22-year-old woman's car was hit by a vehicle driven by a 78-year-old Falls man traveling east on North Haven when she pulled out in front of him. She was cited for a stop sign violation.

March 22 -- One-car crash. A 30-year-old Falls man was transported to Akron City Hospital with possible injuries following a 9:33 p.m. collision. Traveling north on State Route 8, the man lost control of his car and drove head-on into a concrete divider, according to the accident report. A witness stated the driver cut into the left lane and accelerated before the crash.

March 21 -- Rear-ended. An 84-year-old Falls woman was cited for failure to stop with assured clear distance after a 1:54 p.m. accident. She was northbound on State Road when she hit a car in front that was stopped to turn west on Maitland Avenue. The other driver, a 54-year-old Akron woman, reportedly had minor injuries.
