Compact ABLE offers GED classes

Adults can sign up for classes to improve skills in reading, writing and math to prepare for the GED exam or enhance English language skills. GED students must attend four orientation sessions sponsored by Six District Educational Compact Adult Basic Literacy Education April 1, 2, 3 and 4 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Stow-Munroe Falls High School.

Attendance at all four sessions is mandatory, then GED students can progress at their own rate.

After the four-session orientation, students can attend classes at four sites sponsored by the Six District Educational Compact ABLE. Sites include Stow-Munroe Falls High School, Central School and Roosevelt High School in Kent, and Cuyahoga Falls Memorial Library. Classes will be in session until the end of June.

Adults who would like to attend the free GED orientation sessions or learn more about the program should call 330-676-8668.

Silver Lake Elementary announces April events

Silver Lake Elementary School officials announce the following upcoming events:

* Market Day Pickup is April 2 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the second grade hallway;

* Home and School League Meeting will take place April 3 at 9:15 a.m. in the library. Everyone is welcome.;

* Art Show and Ice Cream Social is April 3 from 7 to 8 p.m.;

* End of the third grading period and early release day is April 4 with the last bell at 1:20 p.m.

* Library Fundraiser Dinner Dance and Silent Auction is April 5 at Quirk Cultural Center from 6 to 11 p.m. Live entertainment from a local band will be provided. For more information or to purchase tickets, call 330-928-4880.

Shopping
at Amazon.com will help Bolich library

Shop at Amazon.com and help raise money for the Bolich Middle School Library. The library receives 5 percent of the money you spend at Amazon.com when you use the link on the library's web site. Go to bolichlibrary.org and click on the link to Amazon.com. The library receives their commission in the form of gift certificates which are used to purchase new books for the library. Bolich PTA nominates officers for 2008-09

The PTA nominating committee for Bolich Middle School presents the following slate of officers for the 2008-09 school year:

President: Autumn Tidd

1st Vice President: Tracy Schmitt

Treasurer: Kathy Julian

Recording Secretary: Angie Bertka

Corresponding Secretary: Michele Hamolia

Council Delegates: Elaine Frazee and JoAnn Stanley

Alternate Council Delegate: Michelle Semick

The election of officers will take place at the April 14 meeting beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the library at Bolich Middle School. Additional nominations for any of the offices will be accepted from the floor at that meeting.

Also, at the April meeting, a vote for the approval of By-Laws and Standing Rules corrections and additions will take place. Those corrections and additions were presented at the March 10 meeting and copies are available by contacting Autumn Tidd, Chairperson of the By-Laws committee via e-mail at autumn120@juno.com or at 330-920-1429.

The meeting is open to all parents.

Northminster Preschool accepting registrations

Northminster Cooperative Pre-school is accepting registrations for the 2008-09 school year.

The school offers classes for 3-, 4-, and 5-year-olds. Classes meet Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 to 11:30 a.m. or 12:45 to 3:15 p.m. Spanish Club, Lunch Bunch and early drop off programs are available.

The school is located at 104 W. Portage Trail in Cuyahoga Falls. Call 330-929-9300 for more information or a tour of the school.

Mom and me classes offered at Northminster Pre-school

Mom and Me classes are offered at the Northminster Cooperative Pre-school, 104 West Portage Trail, on Monday mornings from 9:30 to 11 a.m. starting in September 2008. The school has a few openings for the current semester. Children should be 2 1/2 years old or older.

If the child's mother is not available, any adult may accompany the child.

Retired educators
to meet

Local retired educators are invited to attend the next meeting of the Summit County Retired Teachers Association at noon on April 7 at Guy's Party Center, 500 E. Waterloo Road in Akron.

Following a luncheon, costumed characters from Stan Hywet will present "A Step Back in Time to the Year 1920." Reservations must be made by March 31. The cost is $11, and checks are to be mailed to Ruby Winter, 3873 Roller Ave., Akron OH 44319. For more information, call 330-644-6886.

on time capsule

Dewitt Elementary School principal Curt Kennedy is looking for information about a time capsule that was buried 40 years ago. Any one with information should contact Kennedy at 330-926-3802, ext. 2600.
