Redeemer Lutheran Church Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2141 Fifth St., hosts regular worship services. A contemporary service is each Saturday at 6 p.m. Sunday services are at 8:45 a.m. (traditional Lutheran worship) and 11:15 a.m. (contemporary worship). Sunday School and Adult Bible classes are also available at 10 a.m. The church is hosting mid-week Lenten Worship Services each Wednesday at 7 p.m. through March 12. A free-will offering dinner will be served before each service from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. Broadman Baptist Church Broadman Baptist Church, 350 E. Bath Road, hosts the following programs and services: On Sundays, fellowship takes place at 9:30 a.m., followed by Life Impact classes at 9:45 a.m., and worship service from 11 a.m. to 12:15 a.m. On Wednesdays, there is a fellowship meal at 5:30 p.m., followed by worship and prayer service at 6:30 p.m., and discipleship from 7 to 8 p.m. (various age grouped classes). Maundy Thursday will take place March 20 with a meal at 6:30 p.m., followed by a service of darkness at 7 p.m. On Easter Sunday, March 23, at 8 a.m. there will be a sunrise service with a potluck meal following. There will be another worship service at 11 a.m. St. Luke's Lutheran Church St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2121 Sixth St., will host Wednesday evening Lenten services every week at 7. This year the services will focus on Jesus's Beatitudes as applied to people's Lenten journey today. During the fourth week of Lent, March 5, the theme will be "The Promise of Mercy." The Wednesday Lenten services will conclude on March 12 with discussion of "The Promise of Seeing God." Northminster Presbyterian Church Northminster Presbyterian Church, 104 W. Portage Trail Extension, is hosting Lenten programs and services. The church will host a bread and broth simple meal every Wednesday at 6 p.m. through March 12. The simple meal is followed by a series of tapes by Amy Jo Levine titled "What's God Up To? Bible Stories Through New Eves." Carol Pocock, a church member, will then lead a discussion. There will be a Maundy Thursday service on March 20 at 7 p.m., with communion by intinction. The Rev. Dr. Joseph W. Atkins Jr. will be the pastor for that service. Good Friday will be observed with an opportunity for quiet meditation in the sanctuary from 1 to 3 p.m. There will also be a meditation guide available. The church is having its 2008 All You Can Eat spaghetti dinners. An Alfredo sauce will be available, as well as extra meaty and marinara sauce. The cost will be $7, which includes spaghetti, salad, pie, bread and a drink. Dinner will be served on the following Fridays: March 14, April 11 and May 9 from 5 to 7 p.m. For more information, call 330-928-8885 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays or Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. United Presbyterian Church Pastor Ross Slaughter continues with his series on modern day discipleship by taking a look at the "Cost of Discipleship" during the season of Lent. On March 9 Pastor Slaughter's message is drawn from Matthew 25, the Parable of the Sheep and Goats, and is entitled, "The Disciple's Heart." United Presbyterian offers two distinct styles of worship. The traditional service starts at 8:30 a.m. and the New Creation contemporary service starts at 11 a.m. The educational hour is between the two services beginning at 9:45 a.m. with small group ministry for all ages. Child care is available on Sunday morning. Parking is available on church property. All are welcome. Craft and Hobby Night is scheduled for March 9, from 3:30 to 8 p.m. Craft and Hobby gives those who enjoy working on handicrafts or scrapbooking to gather at the church with their projects and work on them in a friendly social atmosphere. This activity takes place in the Church Fellowship Hall. The Junior High and Senior High Youth Groups will meet at the church, March 9 from 7 to 8 p.m. PrayerLab is scheduled for March 11. PrayerLab is an opportunity to pray and to be prayed for. Anyone can come to the church sanctuary any time between 7 to 8:30 p.m. This will also give participants a chance to engage in discussion about how to have an effective prayer life. The format is open, with no fixed agenda or liturgy, so as to be Spirit-led. Wednesday Night Alive! runs from 5:15 to 7:30 p.m. with a family-style supper at 6 p.m. More information can be obtained from the church's Web site (www.cfupc.org) for a full description of course offerings. This is the last session of a ten-week program. The theme this week is: "Puzzle Night." The Men's Breakfast will be March 15, at the Silver Swan from 7:30 to 9 a.m. The Silver Swan is located on the corner of Front Street (59) and Hudson Drive in Cuyahoga Falls. Throughout the season of Lent the church will be selling handmade olive wood carvings made by Palestinian Christians to benefit this small, Middle Eastern community of believers in the Holy Land. Those interested can come to the church from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. during the week. For Holy Week, the church will celebrate Jesus' kingly entrance into Jerusalem on Palm/Passion Sunday, March 17. The Maundy Thursday Service, which commemorates the meal Jesus shared with His disciples, will be March 20 from 7 to 8 p.m. Jesus' power over death will be celebrated on the Sunday of the Resurrection, March 23. First United Methodist Church in Cuyahoga Falls First United Methodist Church, 245 Portage Trail, Cuyahoga Falls, is exploring "The Music of the Heart" this Lenten season and will have a Lenten service on March 12 at 7 p.m. featuring the ancient prayer "Kyrie eleison, Lord have mercy." The Chancel adult choir at the church will present Kyries from many times by many composers in a service that will also invite those present to make their own prayers for God's mercy. The music will include a Gregorian chant, Kyries and music of Taize. Child care available. An offering will be taken for the mission projects the church supports. On March 19 community members are invited to a presentation on Christ in the Passover at the church. This memorable program will be led by Yoel Ben David from Jews for Jesus at 7 p.m. in Wesley Hall. At a table set with traditional Passover items, Ben David will share the lessons the Passover celebration can teach Christians about the Jewish roots of Christian faith and God's plan for salvation. Although there is no cost to attend, a free will offering to support the work of Jews for Jesus will be taken. All are invited. Boy Scouts from Troop 152 at the church are selling premium picnic tables for $150. Contact Mark Wiggins at 330-929-9257 by March 15. Delivery will be free in the spring to those living in Cuyahoga Falls. "Betsy Ross," a first-person presentation of the life and times of this famous American will be presented by Sandy Zikursh at the Going Strong meeting on March 13 at 1 p.m. at the church. Refreshments will be available after the program. All are welcome. Pilgrim United Church of Christ Pilgrim United Church of Christ, located in downtown Cuyahoga Falls on the corner of Broad Boulevard and Second Street, is celebrating Lent with a series of Saturday pancake breakfasts. On March 15, and 22, not only will pancakes be served so will: sausage, juice, coffee, and tea. Breakfast begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 10:30. Donations will be accepted. All singles between the ages of 30 and 65 are invited to join other singles for bowling March 9. This nondenominational group will meet at 6 p.m. at Pilgrim to go bowling. Each person will pay their own expenses for the bowling and refreshments. Pilgrim has many events planned leading up to the celebration of Easter on March 23. On March 16, Palm Sunday, the Easter Pageant will be presented during the 10:30 worship service. Maundy March 20, will be celebrated at 6:30 p.m. with a dinner followed by a worship service. Following the Pancake Breakfast on March 22, at 9:30 the Easter Bunny will have pancakes with the children and hunt for eggs. On Easter Sunday, March 23, Communion will be served during the morning worship service at 10:30 a.m. Matthew 6:25-33, and Matthew 25:4-46 are the Biblical references for the Children's Sunday School this month. Each Sunday morning at 9:30 the youths meet in "The Sacred Gathering Place" (Room 28) for singing, prayers, scripture reading, and lessons on the symbols and traditions of Lent. During this time adults may attend the discussion and Bible study group in the library or go to the Heritage Room for silent meditation and coffee. Anyone interested in this book study group is asked to call the church 330-928-4847. Pilgrim also has two weekday Bible study groups. There is a Tuesday morning group that meets at 10:30 in the Pilgrim Library and a 7 p.m. Wednesday evening group that meets in Pilgrim's Heritage Room. Newcomers are always welcome. Bethany United Church of Christ Bethany United Church of Christ, 1235 Broad Blvd., announces the following programs and services: Sunday worship takes place at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Church school for children and adults takes place at 9:15 a.m. During Lent the congregation will reflect on a Psalm from the Bible. One of the choirs will share in the service that begins at 6:30 and ends by 7:30 p.m. After worship, attendees are invited share some soup and bread prepared by the Bethany cooks. (On March 12, the cooks are Mary Seymour and the Young Shepherds.) A spaghetti dinner to benefit breast cancer will take place at Bethany March 14 from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Everyone is invited. In March, the Mission Committee will be supporting the Harvest for Hunger Canned Food Drive. Every Sunday in March the committee will collect canned and dry goods. Suggested canned and non-perishable items include foods that would be fixed for an Easter dinner and canned beef stew, tuna fish, peanut butter, cereal, vegetables and soup. First United Methodist Church of Akron First United Methodist Church of Akron, 263 E. Mill St. (parking and entrance in rear of building), will have a Lenten fish dinner March 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. There will be fried or baked cod, baked chicken breast, potatoes, cole slaw, cake and beverage. The price is $8 for adults and $5 for children ages 3 to 12. Tickets can be purchased through the church office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., or at the door. Grandview United Methodist Church Grandview United Methodist Church, 2315 Phelps Ave., has Sunday School Classes at 9:15 a.m. every Sunday morning. There are two adult classes, one younger adult class and four classes for children, one preschool, one elementary, one upper elementary and one teenage class. The church's worship service is at 10:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary. The first Sunday of every month following the worship service, First Fellowship time takes place where everyone enjoys coffee or punch, bakery items and casual conversation. Blood pressure screening is also done during that time. In the fellowship hall, Mothers of Twins group meets the first Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. and every Friday AA members meet at 7 p.m. The UMW Sewing Group meets every Tuesday at 1 p.m. to do mission projects..
