Redeemer Lutheran Church Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2141 Fifth St. in Cuyahoga Falls, is growing. A Family Life Center will be built on the site of the current gymnasium. Beginning at 10:15 a.m. on March 2 will be a decommissioning of the current building, which is used as a gymnasium. This building is the original sanctuary of the church. During the decommissioning ceremony, members will acknowledge and celebrate all who were baptized, confirmed, married or had Christian burial for loved ones in the original sanctuary. At 10:30 a.m. will be the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Family Life Center. A pancake breakfast will be served in the basement on March 2, from 8 to 11 a.m. in celebration of the beginning of National Lutheran Schools Week. All proceeds benefit the Redeemer Christian School Teacher's Continuing Education Fund. Community members are also invited to join each week for the regular worship services. A contemporary service is each Saturday at 6 p.m. Sunday services are at 8:45 a.m. (traditional Lutheran worship) and 11:15 a.m. (contemporary worship). Sunday School and Adult Bible classes are also available at 10 a.m. The church is hosting mid-week Lenten Worship Services each Wednesday at 7 p.m. through March 12. A free-will offering dinner will be served before each service from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. St. Luke's Lutheran Church St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2121 Sixth St., will host Wednesday evening Lenten services every week at 7. This year the services will focus on Jesus's Beatitudes as applied to people's Lenten journey today. During the fourth week of Lent, March 5, the theme will be "The Promise of Mercy." The Wednesday Lenten services will conclude on March 12 with discussion of "The Promise of Seeing God." Northminster Presbyterian Church Northminster Presbyterian Church, 104 W. Portage Trail Extension, Cuyahoga Falls, is hosting Lenten programs and services. The church will host a bread and broth simple meal every Wednesday at 6 p.m. through March 12. The simple meal is followed by a series of tapes by Amy Jo Levine titled "What's God Up To? Bible Stories Through New Eves." Carol Pocock, a church member, will then lead a discussion. There will be a Maundy Thursday service on March 20 at 7 p.m., with communion by intinction. The Rev. Dr. Joseph W. Atkins Jr. will be the pastor for that service. Good Friday will be observed with an opportunity for quiet meditation in the sanctuary from 1 to 3 p.m. There will also be a meditation guide available. The church is having its 2008 All You Can Eat spaghetti dinners. An Alfredo sauce will be available, as well as extra meaty and marinara sauce. The cost will be $7, which includes spaghetti, salad, pie, bread and a drink. Dinner will be served on the following Fridays: March 14, April 11 and May 9 from 5 to 7 p.m. Northminster sponsors a non-denominational Christian youth club, the Pioneers, which gathers at 6 p.m. Thursdays for fun, learning, crafts, music and snacks. Participants can earn badges in Bible study. Community members can support the church's youth programming by recycling. Newspapers, magazines, catalogs, junk mail and envelopes can be deposited in the recycling bin. The Northminster Craft Guild meets at the church on the third Wednesday of each month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Attendees should bring their current project, a sack lunch, and a friend. For more information, call 330-928-8885 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays or Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. First United Methodist Church in Cuyahoga Falls First United Methodist Church, 245 Portage Trail, is exploring "The Music of the Heart" this Lenten season and will have a Lenten service on March 5 at 7 p.m. featuring the powerful voice of African-American spirituals calling those present to praise jubilantly, pray honestly and ponder the question, "Were you there when they crucified my Lord." The evening will feature music presented by Chancel Ringers, Epworth and Wesley Choirs, soloists and ensembles presenting music that is truly "of the heart." A fellowship time will follow. Child care available. An offering will be taken for the mission projects the church supports. The Lenten program on March 12 is the adult Chancel Choir presenting anthems based on the prayer, "Kyrie eleison." What do the Jewish Passover and Jesus' last supper have in common? Yoel Ben David from Jews For Jesus will answer that question when Christ in the Passover is presented on March 19 at 7 p.m. at the church. This program will provide insight on how the pieces of God's plan of salvation fit together in this visual display of the Passover pageantry. It has been presented in thousands of churches since originally written in 1956 by Moishe Rosen, founder of Jews for Jesus. All are welcome. Boy Scouts from Troop 152 at the church are selling premium picnic tables for $150. Contact Mark Wiggins at 330-929-9257 by March 15. Delivery will be free in the spring to those living in Cuyahoga Falls. "Betsy Ross," a first-person presentation of the life and times of this famous American will be presented by Sandy Zikursh at the Going Strong meeting on March 13 at 1 p.m. at the church. Refreshments will be available after the program. All are welcome. United Presbyterian Church Pastor Ross Slaughter continues with his series on modern day discipleship by taking a look at the "Cost of Discipleship" during the season of Lent. This Sunday Pastor Slaughter's message is drawn from Matthew 25, the Parable of the Three Stewards, and is entitled, "The Disciple's Reward." United Presbyterian offers two distinct styles of worship. The traditional service starts at 8:30 a.m. and the New Creation contemporary service starts at 11 a.m. The educational hour is between the two services beginning at 9:45 a.m. with small group ministry for all ages. Child care is available on Sunday morning. Parking is available on church property. All are welcome. During the education hour March 2, Jeff Abood of the Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation will speak concerning the plight of Palestinian Christians living in Israel. The native Christian population of the Holy Land has decreased from 18 percent of the population in 1948 to 2 percent currently. Mr. Abood's presentation will run from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. in the fellowship hall. On March 2 the Junior High and Senior High Youth Groups will go to Laser Quest, and will gather at the church between 1:30 and 1:45 p.m. The church will host a bake sale throughout the day March 4, while the church is open for Election Day voting. The proceeds will benefit the Joseph Badger Meadows Camp and Conference Center in Burghill, the church camp of the Presbytery of Eastminster, PrayerLab is scheduled for March 4. PrayerLab is an opportunity to pray and to be prayed for. Anyone can come to the church sanctuary any time between 7 to 8:30 p.m. This will also give participants a chance to engage in discussion about how to have an effective prayer life. The format is open, with no fixed agenda or liturgy, so as to be Spirit-led. Wednesday Night Alive! runs from 5:15 to 7:30 p.m. with a family-style supper at 6 p.m. More information can be obtained from the church's Web site for a full description of course offerings. This is week nine of a 10-week program. The theme this week is: "Lumberjack Night." Throughout the season of Lent the church will be selling handmade olive wood carvings made by Palestinian Christians to benefit this small, Middle Eastern community of believers in the Holy Land. Pilgrim United Church of Christ "Yes, Lord I Have Sinned But I Have Several Excellent Excuses," a book by James Moore, will be the focus of a new book study beginning March 30 at Pilgrim United Church of Christ, 130 Broad Blvd. This study Group for adults will meet at 9:30 a.m. during Sunday School. Interested persons are requested to register for this class by calling the church at 330-928-4847. Matthew 6:25-33, and Matthew 25: 4-46 provide the Biblical background for the Youth Sunday School's current program. Each Sunday morning at 9:30 the youths meet in "The Sacred Gathering Place" (Room 28) for singing, prayers, scripture reading, and lessons on the symbols and traditions of Lent. Pilgrim welcomes all youth to come learn more about Lent and Jesus's gift of love. Sunday morning Worship Services are at 10:30 in the sanctuary. Pilgrim's Pastor, Kirk Bruce, provides the Sunday message. Following the service all are invited for coffee, tea, and refreshment in the social hall. On March 8 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., Pilgrim's Free Community Lunch Committee will sponsor a pancake breakfast. A free will offering will be taken with all the money going to the pastor's discretionary fund. This fund is money the pastor uses to assist others in the community with emergency needs. Everyone is welcome to come to Pilgrim for breakfast. New stuffed animals, coloring books, and crayons are being collected at Pilgrim by the Schneider Family for patients in the Children's Hospital Burn Unit. Donations may be placed in bins at each doorway. There are two other Bible Study Groups at Pilgrim. One meets at 10 a.m. Tuesdays in the Library. The Wednesday Evening Beginners Bible Study meets at 7 p.m. in the Heritage Room. The evening group, lead by Pastor Kirk, is studying Biblical themes. Newcomers are always welcome. Pilgrim's Singles Group will meet at the church March 9 to go bowling. This non-denominational group is open to all singles between 30 and 65. Participants will pay their own expenses. Bethany United Church of Christ Bethany United Church of Christ, 1235 Broad Blvd., announces the following programs and services: Sunday worship is at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Church school for children and adults is at 9:15 a.m. During Lent the congregation will reflect on a Psalm from the Bible. One of the choirs will share in the service that begins at 6:30 and ends by 7:30 p.m. After worship soup and bread prepared by the Bethany cooks will be served. (On March 5 - Rev. During the month of March, the Mission Committee will be supporting the Harvest for Hunger Canned Food Drive. Every Sunday in March the church will collect canned and dry goods. Suggested canned and non-perishable items include foods that would be fixed for an Easter dinner and canned beef stew, tuna fish, peanut butter, cereal, vegetables and soup. Church of the Annunciation Church of the Annunciation's famous Lenten fish fry will take place every Friday through March 14, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Cost is $8 for adults, $7.50 for seniors, and $3.75 for children 12 and younger. Menu includes baked or fried fish; scalloped potatoes, French fries, or macaroni and cheese; and coleslaw or applesauce. Pie will be available for purchase. The church is at 87 Broad St., Akron.
