Cuyahoga Falls -- An 18-year-old Akron resident was arrested on a variety of charges early Feb. 10, stemming from an attempted traffic stop by police shortly before midnight Feb. 9. According to police, an officer noticed the suspect traveling at a high rate of speed on Howe Avenue at state Route 8 and attempted to pull him over, giving him both visible and audible signals to stop. The suspect allegedly ignored the signals and continued driving. At one point, officers believed the suspect's car sideswiped another vehicle. The Akron resident was eventually stopped on Villa Avenue in Akron. The man was charged with felony fleeing, for allegedly eluding a Cuyahoga Falls police officer in a marked car; resisting arrest, for pulling away and kicking a police officer; vandalism, for kicking out the rear passenger window of a cruiser while handcuffed and under arrest; and felonious assault, for kicking one police officer in the leg and elbowing another in the chest. Neither officer required medical attention. An estimate on the monetary damage to the police cruiser was not available at press time. Carrying a concealed weapon Feb. 10 -- Armed and ready to serve. Police arrested an employee of a Graham Road Circle restaurant on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon after he allegedly brought a loaded 9 mm handgun to work. Police were dispatched to the establishment around 3:30 p.m. Feb. 9 --Illegally armed. An Akron resident was arrested on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon when police discovered she possessed a loaded Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum in her vehicle during a stop of a suspicious vehicle on Graham Road Circle about 3 a.m. The woman also was arrested on a charge of possession of weapons under a disability since she has a prior felony conviction, according to police. Prohibited weapon Feb. 8 -- Martial mistake. A 26-year-old man was arrested on a charge of possessing prohibited weapons after he was discovered carrying a knife with a 3 1/2-inch blade and a 26-inch baton at the intersection of Tallmadge Road and Newberry Street. Police say an officer working an extra job in the area noticed the individual, who matched the description of someone reported to have a weapon protruding from his backpack. Domestic violence Feb. 8 -- Husband threatens wife. A resident told police her husband threatened to kill her with a folding knife. She signed a complaint and temporary protection order. Her husband was subsequently arrested on a charge of domestic violence. Illegal possession of drug documents Feb. 8 -- Fraudulent prescriptions. An Akron physician told police six fraudulent prescriptions for hydrocodone bearing her name as the prescribing physician were brought to a Graham Road pharmacy. The prescriptions all bore the same patient's name. The matter remains under police investigation. Disorderly conduct/intoxication Feb. 7 -- Lost appetite. A Fourth Street resident was arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct and intoxication after he allegedly passed out, leaving food on the stove and prompting a smoke alarm to sound. Another resident of the apartment complex reportedly summoned the fire department about 6:15 p.m. Disrupting public services Feb. 9 -- Service interruption. A technician for AT & T reported someone cut or removed at least 50 wires from transfer boxes at the intersection of Washington Street and Oakwood Avenue between 10 p.m. on Feb. 8 and 7 a.m. on Feb. 9. According to the technician, phone and cable service was disrupted to at least 50 customers. Damage is estimated at $2,000. Police say there are no leads or suspects in the case. Telecommunications harassment Feb. 11 -- Threat phoned-in. A Second Street resident told police an unknown woman called her and stated, "I'm going to kill you." The resident was advised to contact the AT&T Annoyance Bureau. There were no leads at press time. Theft Feb. 11 -- Checks stolen. A Kilarney Street resident reported someone she knows removed 19 checks from two checkbooks. Loss is reported at $745.73. According to police, the resident was referred to the prosecutor's office. Feb. 11 -- Necklace missing. A Second Street resident reported someone removed a 14-karat gold necklace from her bedroom dresser between Aug. 1 and Nov. 24, 2007. The 20-inch necklace is valued at $492. According to police, the matter remains under investigation. Feb. 9 -- Pilfered prescription. A woman staying at a Front Street hotel reported someone entered her room and removed a bottle of prescription drugs between 8 a.m.. and 3:30 p.m. Police continue to investigate. Breaking and entering Feb. 8 -- Cash taken. The owner of a Chestnut Boulevard eatery reported someone cracked the safety glass on the front door and peeled it back to enter the business and remove cash between Feb. 7 and 8. Monetary loss and damages are estimated at $600. The matter remains under investigation. Furnishing tobacco
Feb. 8 -- Illegal cigarette sales. A Fallsite was arrested on a charge of furnishing tobacco to a minor after he allegedly purchased a box of Newport 100s for a 14-year-old boy. The juvenile was arrested on a charge of possession of tobacco after he was discovered smoking in the parking lot of the Natatorium.
