St. Luke's
Lutheran Church

St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2121 Sixth St., will host Wednesday evening Lenten services every week at 7. This year the services will focus on Jesus's Beatitudes as applied to people's Lenten journey today.

On Feb. 13, the theme will be "The Promise of Comfort."

On the second Wednesday of Lent, Feb. 20, the focus will be on "The Promise of an Inheritance."

On Feb. 27, "The Promise of Righteousness," will be explored.

Bailey Road
Christian Church

The Bailey Road Christian Church, 3200 W. Bailey Road in Cuyahoga Falls, hosts Sunday school for classes of all ages at 9:30 a.m. and a 10:45 a.m. worship service.

The church also offers a "Just for Christ" event from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Sundays which includes music, games, Bible study and snacks for pre-kindergarten aged children through the eighth grade.

A new contemporary worship service is also scheduled to take place on Sundays at 7 p.m.

On Tuesdays, Cub Scouts meet at the church at 6:30 p.m. On the first and third Tuesdays of every month, "Happy Hands" sewing and craft group meets at 12:30 p.m. at the church.

On Wednesdays, choir practice takes place at the church at 7:30 p.m.

On every other Thursday at 6:30 p.m. the Girl Scouts meet at the church.

The Christian Women's Fellowship meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m.

First United
Methodist Church

First United Methodist Church, 245 Portage Trail, is exploring "The Music of the Heart" this Lenten season and will have the first of its Lenten services on Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. featuring Paul Sunderland and the praise and worship team of Northampton United Methodist Church leading a contemporary praise service in Wesley Hall. A fellowship time will follow. Child care available. An offering will be taken for the mission projects the church supports. On Feb. 20, there will be a hymn sing of Charles Wesley hymns; on Feb. 27, the Stairwell Singers will perform.

Community members are invited to hear "The Life of Abraham Lincoln" on Feb. 14 at 1 p.m. at the church. The program is part of the Going Strong meeting and is presented by Lincoln impersonator Pete Raymond of Wooster. The program focuses on the former president's life as he grew to adulthood, his leadership during the Civil War, his love of this country and his untimely death. Mr. Raymond is a life member of the Association of Lincoln Presenters which includes 170 portrayers of Lincoln from 35 states making presentations in first person, dressed in Lincoln-era attire. A Daddy-Daughter Dance will take place at the church on Feb. 17 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Wesley Hall. Participants will enjoy music, dancing, snacks, beverages and lots of fun. Tickets are available at the church office during the week.

Grace Summit Community Church

Grace Summit Community Church, 2960 Bailey Road in Cuyahoga Falls will host a casual community coffee house evening with coffee, pastries, games and live music on Feb. 15 from 6 to 9 p.m. Contact the church with questions at 330-922-3550.

United Presbyterian Church

Pastor Ross Slaughter continues with his series on modern day discipleship by taking a look at the "Cost of Discipleship" during the season of Lent. This Sunday Pastor Slaughter's message is drawn from Luke14.25-33 and is entitled, "Counting the Cost." Also, the Wednesday Night Alive! Puppet Ministry will be giving the Children's Messages for both services.

United Presbyterian offers two distinct styles of worship. The traditional service starts at 8:30 a.m. and the New Creation contemporary service starts at 11 a.m.

The educational hour is between the two services beginning at 9:45 a.m. with small group ministry for all ages.

Child care is available on Sunday morning. Parking is available on church property. All are welcome.

PrayerLab will take place on Feb. 12. PrayerLab is an opportunity to pray and to be prayed for. Anyone can come to the church sanctuary any time between 7 and 8:30 p.m. This will also give participants a chance to engage in discussion about how to have an effective prayer life. The format is open, with no fixed agenda or liturgy, so as to be spirit-led.

The Junior High Youth Group will meet at the church on Feb. 10, from 7 to 8 p.m.

Wednesday Night Alive! runs from 5:15 to 7:30 p.m. with a family-style supper at 6 p.m.

More information can be obtained from the church's Web site for a full description of course offerings. This is week six of a 10-week program this mid-winter. The theme this week is: Valentine's Day.

The Men's Breakfast will be Feb. 16, at the Silver Swan from 7:30 to 9 a.m. The Silver Swan is located on the corner of Hudson Drive and Route 59 in Cuyahoga Falls.

The Craft and Hobby Night will be Feb. 17, at the church from 3:30 to 8 p.m. Participants bring their craft projects and work in a friendly social environment.

The UPC 2008 Women's Retreat will take place at the Loyola of the Lakes Jesuit Retreat House, 700 Killinger Road, Clinton, from 7 p.m. Feb. 22, through 7 p.m. Feb. 23. The theme is "Pressing Past our Fears," led by Sheila Slaughter, using the resources of national speaker Beth Moore. The cost is $50. Registration can be made by contacting the church office.

Pilgrim United Church of Christ

Pilgrim United Church of Christ, 130 Broad Blvd. in Cuyahoga Falls, offers a variety of ways to learn more about God. On Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. children may attend L.I.G.H.T. (Learning in God's House Together). During this time adults may choose between two different ways to study God's word. Discussion and coffee are offered in the Pilgrim library, or adults may go to the Heritage Room for coffee and quiet meditation.

The first Sunday after Easter, a third choice for adults will be added to the 9:30 Sunday morning format. A new book group will begin discussing "Yes, Lord I have Sinned But I Have Several Excellent Excuses," by James Moore.

To assure that enough books are ordered, interested people are asked to call the church to sign up for this book group.

Sunday worship service begins at 10:30 a.m. in the Pilgrim sanctuary and is followed by a social hour in the Social Hall. Rev. Kirk Bruce is the Pilgrim's pastor. On Feb. 10, Pilgrim's singles group will meet for pizza and fun at 6 p.m. All singles between the ages of 30 and 65 are welcome to attend. A free will offering will be taken to cover the cost of the food. This nondenominational group meets the second Sunday evening of each month.

A new session of the Beginners Bible study starts Feb. 13 at 8 p.m. in the Pilgrim library. Biblical themes will be the topic (i.e. water is the symbol for chaos).

Pilgrim is sponsoring a four-part series, "Living with Money" beginning Feb. 17.

Each one-hour session will begin after Sunday worship and will include a light lunch, a 20-minute video, and discussion. Interested people may call the church to register for this series.

Women's Friendship Circle invites all women to their monthly meetings, which take place the third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. On Feb. 21, Friendship Circle will have a game night.

Bethany United Church of Christ

Bethany United Church of Christ, 1235 Broad Blvd., announces the following programs and services:

Lent Continues Midweek Worship: The Psalms are the church's prayer book. They express the sometimes angry, sometimes joyful, but always honest and urgent prayers of the faithful. This year each of the church's midweek Lenten Services will be a reflection on a Psalm. One of the choirs will share in the weekly service. All services will include soup and bread from the Bethany cooks. Services begin at 6:30 and will end by 7:30 p.m.; join the church on Feb. 13. To learn more about Bethany Church come to the lounge (first floor, 13th Street entrance) at 7 p.m., for the Inquiry Meeting. Pastor Steve will be sharing about the congregation.

The sixth Annual Chili Cook-Off will be Feb. 17 after the 10:30 church service. Proceeds will benefit Bethany Kitchen. The building is wheelchair accessible with handicapped parking and all are welcome. Call the church for information at 330-923-5277.
