Candidates for Wards 5 through 8 report finances

Cuyahoga Falls -- City Council candidates for Wards 5 through 8 receive campaign funding from a variety of sources.

According to recently filed campaign finance reports from the Summit County Board of Elections marking the period of Aug. 22 through Oct. 17, candidates for Wards 5 through 8 break down as follows.

The Ward 5 race, featuring Bob Brown (R) and incumbent Diana Colavecchio (D) had contributions of $1,500 and $200, respectively.

Brown received a $1,500 contribution from The Republican Party, while he also received a $700 loan.

Brown's expenditures were $1,718.40, including a $700 loan repayment, $500 to Young's Printing and Embroidery of Cuyahoga Falls for yard signs and $518.40 to Record Publishing Co. for advertising.

Brown's committee owes $750 in outstanding loans.

Colavecchio had $2,160 in available funds from a carry-over balance of $400.09, a $200 contribution and a $1,560 loan. Colavecchio received a $200 donation from the Summit County Democratic Executive Committee. Her expenditures were $1,943.32 and included $838.50 to Triad Communications Inc. for door hangers, $625.02 to Corbett's of Akron for the folding and mailing of vote letters, and $329.80 to Quinn's Printing in Cuyahoga Falls for campaign stickers.

Colavecchio's committee owes $8,084.49 in outstanding loans.

Ward 6 Councilmember Don Walters (D), running unopposed, did not file a finance report. According to the Board of Elections, a candidate only has to file a report if they received or spent $1,000 or more during the latest reporting period.

Ward 7 Council candidates Levia Goff (I) and incumbent Jerry James (D), received monetary campaign contributions of $300 and $765, respectively.

Goff's single contribution came from the International Union Operating Engineers Local 18 of Cleveland. Her $300 in expenditures went to Fast Signs of Akron for campaign signs.

Goff's committee received $1,012.33 in in-kind contributions from Goff.

James had $103.15 brought forward from his previous funding report. James' donations came from a fundraising event, which, among other donations of lesser value, featured three separate $100 checks from McCready's Tire and Auto of Cuyahoga Falls, Roetzel and Andress of Akron, and the Poda Campaign Committee of Uniontown.

James' expenditures for the period were $226, which included food from Rocco's Pizza of Cuyahoga Falls and Crest Bakery of Akron for a fundraiser.

James' committee owes $1,550 in outstanding loans.

In the city's Ward 8 race, Jim Bouplon (D) and incumbent Terry Mader (R) received contributions totaling $300 and $200, respectively.

Bouplon had a $970 carry-over from his last report, in addition to a $510 loan.

Bouplon's largest contributor was a $200 check from the Summit County Democratic Executive Committee Political Fund. His total expenditures were $1,079.15 and included a $500 loan repayment, $273.90 to Victory Store.com of Davenport, Iowa for yard signs, $172.66 to Office Max for campaign fliers and $110.15 to Capitol Promotions of Glenside, Pa. for pens.

Bouplon's committee owes $1,586.99 in outstanding loans.

Mader's largest contribution of $100 came from Shirley Stofka of Cuyahoga Falls. He had a $1,99.56 balance from his last report and his total expenditures for the period were $777.60 and consisted of two, separate payments to Record Publishing Co.

Mader's committee owes $403.95 in outstanding loans.
