Winners of the 2007 creative writing contest The Cuyahoga Falls Parks and Recreation Department would like to congratulate the 515 students that participated in this year's Creative Writing Contest. The winners of the High School Division (Cuyahoga Falls and Woodridge High Schools) for short story were Dennis Lam in third place, second place was Rachel Zimmerman, first place was Andrew DeRemer, and the grand prize went to Jim Distel from Cuyahoga Falls High School. Trophies for the best poem in the High School Division went to Danielle Zampelli for third place, Sarah Allan in second place, Olivia Tavolier for first place, and Megan Mlnarik from Cuyahoga Falls High School took home the grand prize trophy. The middle schools were separated into three districts depending on the number of entries from each school. The winners for the best story in district A (Redeemer, IHM and St. Joseph's) were Hannah Green in second place, Patrick Kern in first place, and Bennett Nelson from IHM won the grand prize. The winners for best poem in district A were Jessica Carley in third place, Alex DeWitt in second place, Patrick O'Brien in first place, and Katie Cottrill from St. Joseph's was the grand prize winner. The winners for the best short story in district B (Bolich) were Sarah Medeiros in third place, Samantha Krejci in second place, Jimmy Dolan in first place, and Nick Dotson from Bolich won grand prize. The district B winners for poem were Sydney Sedlack in third place, Vince Leiter in second place, Ashleigh Bender in first place, and Amanda Turner from Bolich won the grand prize trophy. In district C (Woodridge and Roberts), winners for best short story were Kyle White in third place, Angelina Moore in second place, Emily Gibbons in first place, and Simon Moskowitz from Roberts won the grand prize. The winners for poem in this district were Kayla Soldat in third place, Alex Frederick in second place, Josh Swigart in first place, and Katie Gilbertson from Woodridge won the grand prize trophy. Winners of the 2007 window painting contest The Cuyahoga Falls Parks and Recreation Department would like to congratulate all who participated in this year's Halloween Window Painting Contest. The winners of the High School Division (Cuyahoga Falls and Walsh High Schools) were Chelsea Toth in third place, Becca Morris in second place, Nicole Younkin in first place, and Emily and Hannah Schwarz from Cuyahoga Falls High School won grand prize. The middle schools were separated into three districts depending on the number of entries from each school. In district A (IHM and St. Joseph's) winners were Alicia Collins and Jamie Berray in third place, Erin O'Neill and Isabel Chrissey in second place, Jackie McDowell in first place, and Aly Pagni and Tiffany Ruther from IHM won grand prize. The district B (Bolich) winners were Danika Jones in third place, Alec Booth and Cory Boca in second place, Anthony and Robert Anderson in first place, and Jimmy Dolan from Bolich won grand prize. In district C (Roberts and Redeemer), winners were Lauren Smith and Sophie Moskowitz in third place, Daniel Eckstein in second place, Jessica Smith in first place, and Corinne Hendrock from Roberts won grand prize. Dance Fever Nov. 2 The Cuyahoga Falls Parks and Recreation Department is offering a Dance Fever Open Dance at the Quirk Cultural Center, 1201 Grant Avenue. We'll start each evening with a dance lesson from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., each month featuring a different dance. From 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. enjoy dancing to a variety of great music. This event will be Nov. 2. Fee is $8 per person, $5 for students and seniors with ID. No partner needed, all ages welcome. Pay at the door. Dance lessons The following classes are at the Quirk Center on Monday nights, Nov. 5 to Dec. 10. Fee is $5 per person/per class, pay at the door. Beginning East Coast Swing, 7 to 8 p.m. A dance that was started in the 30's and is still popular today. Intermediate West Coast Swing, 8 to 9 p.m. An extension of beginning West Coast Swing with the introduction of cool patterns. Basic knowledge of the simple WC Swing a must. There is still room in the Mudcakes clay class for 6-8-year-olds Tuesdays, Oct. 30, Nov. 6 and 13 from 4 to 4:45 p.m. They will learn to explore working with clay and creating their own masterpiece. Fee is $18 resident/$21 nonresident which includes all supplies. There is an additional Mudpies (age 3-5 with adult) clay class that has openings Thursdays, Nov. 1, 8, and 15 from 2 to 2:45 p.m. Fee is $13 resident pair/$16 nonresident pair. Computer classes The Parks and Recreation Department has two computer classes in November to help get you up to date in the technology world. Getting Things Free on the Internet is a great class to take with the holidays coming up. Class is Nov. 1 from 6 to 9 p.m. Registration fee is $2 for residents, $3 for nonresidents and a class fee of $10. Youth art one-day workshops Classes for ages 6 to 16 are being offered through Cuyahoga Falls Parks & Recreation Department. All classes are at the Quirk Cultural Center. November classes are: Autumn Colors is a painting color theory class Nov. 3. Students will learn how to mix paints from primary colors to create a fall painting. Ages 7 to 9 will meet from 9:30-10:30 a.m. with a fee of $8 resident/$10 nonresident. Ages 10 and up -- 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with a fee of $12 resident/$15 nonresident.
