CUYAHOGA FALLS -- During its regular meeting Feb. 27, City Council unanimously approved entering into a contract to replace the roof at Quirk Cultural Center at 1201 Grant Ave.
During a committee meeting, At-Large Councilman Jeff Iula (R) said the roof has not been replaced since 1992 and Ed Stewart, the city's parks and recreation superintendent, said the lowest and winning bid from First Roofing Co. of Cleveland came in $160,000 under budget.
"This is very a reputable company," said Stewart. "They were quite a bit lower than the next (highest) bid. We had 13 bids and the average bid was about $300,000." The cost is going to be $209,500, he said, plus $4,500 for masonry work.
Stewart said the building will remain open during construction. Work will begin in about a month and be completed in early to mid-summer.
The next City Council meeting will be March 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the Natatorium, 2345 Fifth St.
