Cuyahoga Falls -- City Council will vote on Feb. 27 whether to enter into a contract to replace the roof at Quirk Cultural Center at 1201 Grant Ave. At-Large Councilman Jeff Iula (R) said the roof has not been replaced since 1992.
Ed Stewart, the city's parks and recreation superintendent, said the lowest and winning bid from First Roofing Co. of Cleveland came in $160,000 under budget. The cost is going to be $209,500, he said, plus $4,500 for masonry work.
"This is very a reputable company," said Stewart. "They were quite a bit lower than the next (highest) bid. We had 13 bids and the average bid was about $300,000."
Work will begin in about a month, Stewart said, and be completed in early to mid-summer.
Stewart said the building will remain open during construction. Handicapped parking close to the building will be relocated temporarily, he added.
"There's quite a bit of activity in the building," Stewart said. "There's nothing in this project that will close anything down."
