The Cuyahoga Falls Chamber of Commerce's Family Health Expo slated for Oct. 15 has been canceled, according to an announcement posted on the chamber's website.
"We have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2016 Family Health Expo at the Natatorium due to low exhibitor participation," the website announcement said. "We have a planning committee of business leaders that worked very hard behind the scenes to coordinate this expo and they went above and beyond what it takes to make these types of expos successful. Unfortunately our local health and wellness businesses either had other commitments or staffing issues. (These were reasons we were given.)"
Laura Petrella, CEO of the Chamber, said 30 exhibitors were signed up for the event and noted that organizers needed to lock in 40 participants for the event to move forward. Petrella said all of the exhibitors were understanding about the cancellation, noting everyone received a full refund of their exhibitor fee. Some exhibitors told Petrella to donate their fee to the Community Expo, which is set for March 25, 2017, also at the Natatorium.
Petrella said there are no plans for the Health Expo to take place in 2017.
The Health Expo typically featured health and wellness businesses and organizations that provided product and services information, as well as health screenings and demonstrations.
Attendees also participated in raffle drawings, door prizes, giveaways, family activities and more.
It took place at the Natatorium on a Saturday in October for eight consecutive years.
