A Cuyahoga Falls High School graduate who fell from the roof of the GetGo station under construction in Ravenna about two weeks ago has died from his injuries.

Shane Brewer, 42, of Tallmadge, died Aug. 11 from injuries sustained in the fall from the roof of the station on Aug. 1. Giant Eagle is constructing the station at 1363 E. Main St. in the Cotton Corners area of Ravenna Township.

Brewer, a 1993 Cuyahoga Falls High School graduate, owned and operated Akron Construction.

Ken Blubaugh, a firefighter with the Ravenna Township Fire Department, confirmed the fall took place at about 3 p.m. Aug. 1, and said firefighters transported him to Summa Akron City Hospital. He said Brewer reported he couldn't move his legs and had head injuries, but was alert and talking.

A representative of the Occupational Health and Safety Administration office in Cleveland said the incident is under investigation.

He said Brewer was working on the roof of the building under construction and fell about 16 feet to the concrete floor.

Randy Edwards, whose son is married to one of Brewer's daughters, said he visited Brewer at the hospital after the incident, and although he was apparently paralyzed from the waist down, he was doing well and talking. There was talk of sending him to a rehabilitation center for therapy.

But on Aug. 11, he went into cardiac arrest at the rehab center and was taken back to the hospital, where he died, according to Edwards.
