The Woodridge Local School District Board of Education voted 4-1 Dec. 18 to renew Superintendent Walter C. Davis's contract. Davis became the Woodridge superintendent in August 2010 and his current contract expires July 31, 2013. The new contract, four years in length, extends from Aug. 1, 2013 through July 31, 2017, at a base salary of $110,000, the same salary Davis has earned for three years. Board member George DeBord cast the dissenting vote. He said he was in favor of a new contract for Davis, but not for the duration proposed, calling a four-year contract "a rarity."
"By law we can give up to five years," School Board President Tammy Heffernan said, adding, "I think it shows our confidence in him … and his desire to stay [in the district]."
