The Akron Civic Theatre recently announced its 2016-17 season of national attractions and locally produced events, which includes Alice Cooper (Sept. 23), Theresa Caputo Live! The Experience (Oct. 7), OCTONAUTS Live! Deep Sea Adventure (Oct. 31), Jazz Sensation Brian Culbertson with Morgan James (Oct. 22), John Mellencamp (Oct. 19) are among the national acts scheduled to appear.
Performances by local and regional artists include, Helen Welch, Anne E. DeChant, UA Nuance A Cappella Group, Ryan Humbert, Ballet Theatre of Ohio, Ballet Excel Ohio and the 2016 All-City Musical.
Family events continue to be a mainstay of The Civic's programming. The 2016-17 Family Series, includes performances by Magical Theatre Company's "Pinocchio" (November 6th), Firestone High School Theatre's production of School House Rock Live! Jr.(November 13th), and Seussical, a production which is part of The Civic's Millennial Theatre Project, and features local and regional talent of that generation. Additional Family Series shows will be added. The series is once again sponsored by Akron Children's Hospital.
"We have another outstanding and eclectic line up for 2016-17." said Civic Executive Director Howard Parr. "Our goal is to help make Akron and Summit County an outstanding place to work, live and play."
Back this year is the Civic Nights series featuring The Akron Music and Arts Showcase (October 8th), Creative Works Project (October 13th), The Burning River Film Festival (October 23rd), Warren Miller's "Here, There & Everywhere" movie with Skifest (November 19th), UA Nuance - All-Male A Cappella (December 9th), Cirque Ziva featuring The Golden Dragon Acrobats (January 28th).
The Civic will continue its series of cabaret-style events (with both performers and audience on stage), The Club @ The Civic with performers such as Nationally known comedian, Suzanne Westenhoefer (Novemeber 5th), Nashville Singer/Songwriter Anne E. DeChant (November 11th), Ohio Legends of Rock Acoustic Show ( November 12th) Helen Welch's CD Release of "Home for Christmas" (November 20th), National Guitarist, Neil Zaza (February 3rd), and more to be announcing soon.
Among the fan favorites coming back in 2016/2017 are the Akron Craft Beer Festival (October 14th), The Masque of the Red Death Masquerade Ball (October 29th) and Warren Miller's movie and Ski Fest (November 19th).
In addition to the annual run of The Nutcracker; 2016 holiday events feature Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer The Musical (December 14th), Ryan Humbert's 8th Annual Holiday Extravaganza - Christmas in the Round (December 15th & 16th), the Oakridge Boys Holiday Show (December 17th), and Holiday Choir Classic (December 18th).
