The city of Cuyahoga Falls will be participating in the Northern Ohio Golf Charities inaugural Mayors Cup Challenge, a friendly competition between local governments to recruit volunteers for the annual PGA Tour event, according to Mayor Don Walters.
This year's Bridgestone Invitational will take place Aug. 2-6, at Firestone Country Club, in Akron. Volunteers are needed for everything from greeting patrons at the gate to transporting players and dignitaries to and from the airport.
"The city of Cuyahoga Falls is excited to take part in the Mayor's Cup Challenge and recruit volunteers against Akron, Barberton, Green, Stow, and the County of Summit," stated Mayor Walters. "The Bridgestone Invitational is a spectacular event for Northeast Ohio, bringing millions of dollars into our local economy each year, and we are looking forward to this exciting opportunity to recruit our committed community servants from Cuyahoga Falls to volunteer for this spectacular event."
This invitation-only tournament, one of the four World Golf Championships, brings the world's top professional golfers to Northeast Ohio and generates more than $1 million annually for Northeast Ohio charities. The event's annual economic impact is estimated at more than $21 million. Each year more than 1,000 volunteers partner with the PGA Tour to put on the week-long event that is the Bridgestone Invitational.
