Oct. 4, 6:30 p.m.: Ages 5 to 12 are invited to become master builders. Arrive 15 minutes before start time to reserve your seat. Limited to 25 participants. The library provides all building supplies.
Oct. 4, 7 p.m.: The American Association of Individual Investors is a nonprofit organization with about 150,000 members whose purpose is to educate individual investors regarding stock market portfolios, financial planning, and retirement accounts. Meetings are free and open to the public.
Derbytown Men's Chorus
Oct. 5, 7 p.m.: The Derbytown Men's Chorus from the Akron Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society will present an evening of a cappella close harmony. The group promotes and preserves the unique form of harmony known as barbershop. The concert is free.
Oct. 6, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.: Enjoy informative displays, refreshments, and creative energy projects developed by local 5th-grade science students. FREE home energy efficiency kits will be available, one per residential household while supplies last. Representatives from the city and electric system will present awards to local student energy ambassadors at 7 p.m.
Energy Efficiency Workshop is Oct. 6
Oct. 6, 10:30 a.m.: A special presentation by a team of energy efficiency experts will provide tips and ideas to help residents save energy dollars year-round. Free.
Hooked on Books
Oct. 6, 1 p.m.: October's book is "The Wright Brothers" by David McCullough. November's book will be "The Invention of Wings" by Sue Monk Kidd. New members are always welcome at this monthly book club.
Play & Stay Friday
Oct. 7, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Join us for an open-ended Early Childhood program with sensory toys, new learning experiences, and audiovisual adaptations of outstanding children's books. Includes a light snack. Suitable for kids up to age 5 and their caregivers. Free.
Haiku Study Group
Oct. 8, 10 a.m.: The Haiku Society of America will facilitate a study group to introduce new writers to haiku and encourage others in their pursuit to become stronger readers and writers of contemporary English-language haiku. The group is open to anyone from beginners to seasoned haiku poets.
Read to the Dogs
Oct. 8, 12 p.m.: Children in grades K to 5 are invited to read to our incredible troupe of certified therapy dogs. First come, first served.
