Family-friendly Monster Mash

Halloween Dance

Come dressed in costume and do the Monster Mash at the Quirk Cultural Center, 1201 Grant Ave., on Oct. 15 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Tickets must be purchased for this family friendly event, which have different rates for residents and non-residents and include dinner, a DJ and dancing, a keepsake photo, and a Halloween treat bag for the kids. Reservations should be made in advance starting Sept. 30 for residents and Oct. 7 for non-residents by calling the Quirk Cultural Center at 330-971-8425. Limited space is available so register early. New session: dance and gymnastics classes for youth

For kids who like to move, and parents who don't want to spend a fortune on gymnastics classes, the Cuyahoga Falls Parks and Recreation Department will offer a new session of Saturday dance and gymnastics classes beginning Oct. 8 and running through Nov. 5 at the Quirk Cultural Center. Contact the Parks and Recreation Office for fee information. The following classes are being offered:

Pre Ballet (age 4-6), 9 to 9:45 a.m.

Tap, Tumbling and Jazz I (age 4-6), 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.

Tap, Tumbling and Jazz II (age 6-8), 10:45 to 11:45 a.m.

Gymnastics I (age 6-12), noon to 1 p.m.

Gymnastics II (age 6-12), 1 to 2 p.m.

Beginner Ballet (age 6-8), 2 to 2:45 p.m.

Pre-registration is required.

Adult coed power volleyball open gym

The Cuyahoga Falls Parks and Recreation Department is offering a Thursday night Adult Coed Power Volleyball Open Gym at Roberts Middle School from 7 to 10 p.m.

This supervised open gym will be every Thursday night at Roberts Middle School through Dec. 15 (no gym on Nov. 24). This open gym is designated for A Level power players. For fee information call the Park and Recreation Office at 330-971-8225.

Adult ballet classes - new session

The Cuyahoga Falls Parks and Recreation Department is offering Adult Ballet lessons at the Quirk Cultural Center.

Come join the fun, meet new people, and get some exercise. These classes are designed to promote good posture, self-confidence, and grace, while teaching students how to strengthen and protect their bodies from injury. The classes will consist of traditional ballet barre, stretching exercises and mild ballet center floor combinations. All classes are four-week sessions with new Tuesday sessions beginning Oct. 4 and running through Oct. 25 and Thursday sessions beginning Oct. 6 and running through 27. Tuesday classes are Intermediate, 9 to 10:15 a.m., Intermediate, 6 to 7 p.m., and Beginner, 7:15-8:15 p.m. Thursday class is Beginner/Intermediate from 9 to 10 a.m. All class fees must be paid at first class. Adult basketball league registration

The Cuyahoga Falls Parks and Recreation Department will offer the following fast break basketball leagues with games starting in mid-November:

Men's 18 and Over League - Monday at Bolich and Roberts

Men's 18 and Over League - Wednesday at Roberts

Women's 18 and Over League - Wednesday at Bolich

Registration begins Oct. 3 and the deadline for returning teams is Oct. 6, and Oct. 7 for new teams. Call the Parks and Recreation Office at 330-971-8225 for a registration packet or download a packet at the city's web site: www.cityofcf.co/adultsports

Empty Bowl event

The Cuyahoga Falls Park and Recreation Department announces a 30-year anniversary celebration for the Quirk Cultural Center during the week of Sept. 26.

There will be week-long fiber displays, discounts at the Craft Shoppe, creative demonstrations, Community Band and Chorus preview, and a facility open house culminating with an Empty Bowl Dinner on Sept. 30 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Students who have taken ceramics and pottery have created the bowls. The proceeds from the dinner will go to Good Neighbors of Cuyahoga Falls helping the community families in need.

Dinner reservations are required and are on sale now at the Quirk Cultural Center. The ticket price includes a handcrafted bowl, chili or vegetable chili, cornbread, desert and beverage. There is a lower priced bowl for youth 12 and under.
