COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Ohio Gov. John Kasich (KAY' sik) is urging Ohioans to join him in observing a moment of silence honoring the students and adults who lost their lives in the Connecticut school shooting last week.
Kasich says he will observe the moment of silence at 9:30 a.m. Friday as requested by Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy. Malloy has asked people across Connecticut to participate in the moment of silence. Places of worship and buildings with bells have been asked to ring them 26 times.
Officials and clergy in many other states have said they also will participate.
The moment of silence marks a week since the Connecticut massacre in which a gunman entered Sandy Hook Elementary School and fatally shot 20 students and six adults before killing himself.
